Box Score Eau Claire, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 63-54 victory at UW-Eau Claire Saturday night in Zorn Arena. The Eagles improve to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blugolds fall to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
The game was tied 22-22 with 4:33 left in the first half after UW-L's
Jenna Anderson scored on a layup. UW-Eau Claire finished the half scoring the final nine points to lead 31-22 at halftime. UW-L missed its last four shots from the field and had two turnovers in the final 3:42 of the half.
The Blugolds took their biggest lead of the game at 34-24 with 18:36 left in the game after a Courtney Lewis three-pointer. The Eagles then went on a 19-0 run to take a 43-34 lead with 7:48 remaining.
Mallory Cramer tied the game at 34-34 with 13:36 left on a pair of free throws and
Rachel Atchison later hit back-to-back three-point field goals to give UW-L a 40-34 advantage.
UW-Eau Claire went scoreless for over 11 minutes before Madison Johnson hit a layup with 7:24 remaining to cut UW-L's lead to 43-36. The Blugolds missed 16 straight shots from the field until Johnson's layup. UW-Eau Claire also missed two free throws and had six turnovers in UW-L's 19-0 run.
MaKenzie Miller gave UW-L a 46-36 lead with 6:48 remaining on a layup, but UW-Eau Claire went on a 10-3 run to cut the lead to 49-46 with 3:26 left. The Eagles'
Erin Levenhagen followed with a three-point field goal to make it 52-46 with 3:11 remaining and the Blugolds could get no closer than five points the rest of the game.
UW-L made its last nine free throws of the game.
UW-L shot 41.9% from the field, including 50.0% (seven-of-14) from three-point range, and 76.9% (20-of-26) at the free throw line.
Cramer and Atchison led the Eagles with 18 points each Saturday with Cramer also recording a team-high six rebounds. Atchison was four-of-seven from three-point range. Levenhagen finished with 11 points.
UW-Eau Claire shot 38.5% from the field, including 40.0% (six-of-15) from three-point range, and 61.5% (eight-of-13) at the line.
Lewis led the Blugolds with 19 points while Teenie Lichtfuss finished with 12 points and seven assists. Ellen Blacklock had a team-high seven rebounds.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, December 11 hosting UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m.
