Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team earned a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-21) victory over UW-Eau Claire Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 6-8 overall and 2-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blugolds fall to 10-9 overall and 2-1 in the conference. UW-L snapped a five-match losing streak to UW-Eau Claire with the win.
UW-L trailed 3-2 in the opening set when it went on a 5-0 run to lead 7-3. After the Blugolds cut the lead to 9-5, the Eagles scored three straight points to lead 12-5. UW-Eau Claire could get no closer than five points the rest of the set.
In set two, the teams were tied 3-3 when UW-L used a 5-1 run to lead 8-4. UW-Eau Claire later cut the deficit to 9-7, but could get no closer.
The Eagles raced out to a 3-0 lead in the third set before the Blugolds scored four straight points. The match went back-and-forth with ties at 6-6, 7-7 and 8-8. UW-L then went on a 7-1 run to lead 15-9. The Eagles led 23-17 with the Blugolds getting no closer than 24-21.
Lauren Probst led UW-L with 17 kills Wednesday night while
Kayla Ashland and
Leah Putzier each had nine. Ashland hit .412 (9-2-17) and Putzier .348 (9-1-23). The Eagles'
Haley Molzner and
Jill Entinger had eight kills.
Cassie Raduka recorded 45 assists as UW-L hit a season-high .319.
Courtney Geisler had a match-high 13 digs with Probst finishing with nine. Ashland had five blocks.
Mackenzee Pierog led UW-Eau Claire with six kills while Alexis Wong finished with five. Maggie Holcombe and Jenna Smits each had 13 assists as the Blugolds hit .121.
Kelly Schuch had a team-high nine digs.
UW-L returns to action Friday, October 4 at UW-Superior at 7 p.m.
