La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team, second in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Poll, earned a 55-0 victory over Lakeland College (Wis.) Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 12-3-1 on the season while the Muskies fall to 5-9. It is UW-L's second straight shutout after a 45-0 win over UW-Eau Claire Thursday night in Mitchell Hall.
The Eagles took a 12-0 lead after the first two matches as
Albie McKinney and
Adam Sheley earned wins by fall. McKinney, ranked third in NCAA Division III, defeated Grant Franson by fall (2:41) at 125-pounds while Sheley, ranked fifth, won by fall (2:46) over John Wormwood at 133-pounds.
Alex Dahl made it 15-0 as he earned a win by decision (5-1) over Rob Frias at 141-pounds.
Sixth-ranked
Matt Mauseth picked up a win by fall (2:41) at 149-pounds over Jacob Bugajski. It is Mauseth's 100th career victory at UW-L.
Ryan Farwell won by forfeit for the Eagles at 157 to make it 27-0.
Cory Ferguson followed with a win by technical fall (17-2, 6:47) against Ryan Renon at 165-pounds and
Mike Schmitz earned a win by fall (2:15) over Miguel Luis at 174-pounds to give UW-L a 38-0 lead. Ferguson is currently ranked ninth in NCAA III while Schmitz is second.
UW-L's
Vinnie Pedretti won by forfeit at 184-pounds.
Tony Piechowski earned a win by technical fall (19-2, 7:00) over Rob Forgette at 197-pounds and
Billy Mayer, ranked ninth in the nation, won by fall (3:46) over Thomas Phalin at 285.
