Decorah, Iowa - The second-ranked University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 38-9 victory at 22nd-ranked Luther College Thursday night. The Eagles won eight of the 10 matches with the Norse, who dropped to 2-3 with the loss. UW-L is ranked second and Luther 22nd in the Brute-Adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Poll.
Luther took a 3-0 lead at 125-pounds as Daniel Mendoza earned a victory (10-6) over UW-L's
Albie McKinney. McKinney is ranked fourth in NCAA Division III. The Eagles then took the next four matches to lead 17-3.
Jonny Brennan defeated Louis Mazetta by decision (6-3) at 133-pounds; top-ranked
Bebeto Yewah won by major decision (20-7) over Chris George at 141; fourth-ranked
Matt Mauseth won by fall (2:12) against Brent Blaser at 149 and
Ryan Farwell won by major decision (11-1) over Calvin Canales at 157.
The Norse' Garrett Bonte cut the Eagles lead to 17-9 after winning by fall (2:57) over fourth-ranked
Cory Ferguson at 165-pounds, but UW-L finished the dual winning the final four matches.

Mitch Artist won by fall (3:59) against Matt Fassbinder at 184:
John Poppie won by technical fall (5:15) over Nick Pearch at 197 and

UW-L returns to action Friday, Dec. 10 against fifth-ranked Saint John's University (Minn.) at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells. The dual begins at 6:30 p.m.
