Yewah and Dilcher Win Titles at Auggie Open

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team continued its 2010-11 season at the Augsburg College Auggie-Brute-Adidas Open Saturday at Si Melby Hall. No team scores were kept as over 500 wrestlers competed.  

UW-L's Bebeto Yewah and R.J. Dilcher each won individual titles Saturday. Yewah took the 141-pound gold division with a 4-0 record. He opened with a win by technical fall (21-4) over Jerry Mayo III of Northwestern (Iowa). Yewah defeated Victor Coronado of Upper Iowa by decision (4-3) in the quarterfinals followed by a win by decision (9-3) over Chris Sandy of St. John's (Minn.) in the semifinals. He beat Gabriel Suarez of St. Cloud State (Minn.) by major decision (19-8) in the title match.

Dilcher went 3-0 to capture the 159-pound title in the bronze division with a 3-0 record. He defeated Randy Hummel of Buena Vista (Iowa) by technical fall (16-0) in his opening match. Dilcher beat Anthony Smith of Luther (Iowa) by decision (4-3) in the semifinals and Brett Yonkovic of Wartburg (Iowa) by decision (7-2) for the championship.

Three wrestlers earned second-place finishes Saturday for the Eagles. Chase Steiner was second at 141-pounds in the bronze division; Vinnie Pedretti was second in the 184-pound silver division and Eric Nelson placed second in the 197-pound bronze division. 

Albie McKinney was third in the 125-pound gold division Saturday while Bobby Dorn and Scott Hogan each placed third at 149. Dorn competed in the gold division while Hogan was in the consolation bracket. 

Billy Mayer finished third at 285-pounds in the gold division.

UW-L returns to action Thursday, Dec. 2 at UW-Platteville beginning at 7 p.m.
