Dorn Wins Title at UW-Stevens Point Open

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team opened its regular season at the UW-Stevens Point Pointer Open Saturday at SPASH High School. No team scores were recorded. The Eagles' Bobby Dorn took the 149-pound division with a 4-0 record.

Dorn received a first round bye before earning a win by fall (3:47) over Ben Thome of UW-Stevens Point. He then won by decision (4-0) over Mark Puckhaber of UW-Stevens Point in the quarterfinals and by decision (6-2) over Mike Migawa of UW-Parkside in the semifinals. Dorn defeated Kris Magruder of UW-Stevens Point by decision (6-3) in the title match.

The Eagles' had two wrestlers in the title match 157-pounds, but the match was not completed. JR Lewis and Brady Schrupp both went 3-0 at 157-pounds. Lewis won all three of his matches by decision while Schrupp earned a win by technical fall and two by major decision.

Adam Sheley went 2-0 at 133-pounds, but the title match was not held. He earned a win by fall (1:59) over Michael Buhr of Cornell College (Iowa) and by major decision (13-2) over teammate Jonny Brennan. Brennan went 4-1 at 133-pounds to place third.

At 125-pounds, Albie McKinney and Justin Enderby both went 4-1 with their third-place match not completed. Matt Cole went 1-2 at 125-pounds for the Eagles.

Chase Stiener was sixth at 133-pounds for UW-L with a 3-3 record while Alex Dahl was third at 141 with a 4-1 mark.

The Eagles' Scott Hogan went 2-2 at 149-pounds while RJ Dilcher finished third at 157 with a 4-1 record.

At 174-pounds, Scott Gifford finished 1-2. Mitch Artist was third at 184-pounds with a 4-1 record while Vinnie Pedretti finished fifth at 4-2 and Evan Sinram went 1-2 at 184.

John Poppie was third at 197-pounds with a 4-1 record.

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 17 hosting UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
