UW-La Crosse 68, Coe College (Iowa) 58
La Crosse, Wis. - Dana Churchill scored a career-high 20 points as the UW-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 68-58 non-conference victory over Coe College (Iowa) Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 7-4 overall while the Kohawks fall to 3-4.
UW-L led 20-13 with 9:09 remaining in the first half before Coe went on an 11-0 run to lead 24-20. The Eagles came back to force a 30-30 halftime tie. The contest was tied eight times in the first half.
UW-L opened the second half on an 8-1 run to lead 38-31 with 17:06 remaining. The Kohawks later cut the lead to 43-39 with 9:53 left, but the Eagles went on a 10-3 run to lead 53-42 with 4:35 remaining after a pair of free throws from
Lindsey Litrenta.
Coe could get no closer than six points the rest of the game as UW-L led by as many as 12 points.
Churchill was eight-of-14 from the field and four-of-four at the free throw line. She also grabbed six rebounds and finished with three assists and one steal.
Stacie Van Handel added 14 points for the Eagles, going five-of-eight from the field and four-of-six at the line. She had five rebounds.
Taylor Larson added 11 points while
Danielle Frank had seven points and game-high 12 rebounds.
UW-L shot 44.4% from the field, including 10.0% (one-of-10) from three-point range. The Eagles shot 79.2% (19-of-24) at the free throw line.
Kayla Waskow led Coe with 14 points while Leslie Ware added 11. The Kohawks shot 40.4% from the field, including 23.1% (three-of-13) from three-point range, and 69.2% (nine-of-13) at the line.
UW-L returns to action Tuesday, Dec. 29 hosting Alverno College (Wis.) at 7:05 p.m.
