Andrew Lum is in his fourth season as an assistant swimming & diving coach at UW-La Crosse in 2022-23.
The Eagles' women's swimming & diving team won their 10th straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship in 2021-22, winning five individual and three relays titles.
UWL won the league crown in Lum's first year as an assistant coach in 2019-20, earning six individual and three relay titles.
The men's squad placed third at the 2022 WIAC Championships and fourth in 2020. The 2020-21 WIAC Championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 public health threat.
Lum came to UWL after working as an assistant swimming coach at California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and as an assistant master's swimming coach for the Rose Bowl (Pasadena, Calif.) Aquatics Center from 2017-19. He was a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Coaching Staff of the Year in 2018 while at Caltech.
He was the assistant swimming coach/assistant championships director at UW-Oshkosh in 2016-17, acting as the assistant tournament director for the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships. Lum also co-directed the organization and execution of the NCAA Division III Cross Country Midwest Regional while working with WIAC Championships in swimming & diving, football, women's tennis and women's and men's basketball.
A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Lum was a four-year member of the Willamette University (Ore.) swimming team while specializing in the butterfly events. He was named the 2013 Bearcats' Rookie of the Year.
Lum served as president of the Northwest Conference (NWC) and Willamette (Ore.) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He was a four-time member of the NCAA Division III Scholar-Athlete selection and was the recipient of the 2015 NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority Student Grant.
Lum was the lead team ambassador/sports coordinator for the Willamette (Ore.) Office of Admission from 2014-16. He earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science from Willamette (Ore.) in 2016 and his master's of education from the University of Washington in 2019.
