Vinny Whipple starts his second season as an assistant football coach at UW-La Crosse in 2017, coaching the defensive backs. A native of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Whipple was a four-sport (football, basketball, track & field and baseball) athlete at Eagle Grove High School.
He earned his bachelor's degree in sports marketing and management from the University of Dubuque (Iowa) in 2015. A three-year starter at safety for the Spartans, Whipple was named to the 2013 All-Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Second Team after starting all 10 games. He finished second for Dubuque (Iowa) with 72 tackles while recording 2.0 tackles for loss, one interception and one forced fumble.
Whipple was named Dubuque's MVP in 2014 after starting all 10 games and finishing second on the team with 100 tackles, including a team-high 56 solo. He recorded two forced fumbles in 2014 while finishing with one fumble recovery and one interception.
