UW-La Crosse Women's Track & Field Alumni

Greetings UWL Women’s Track & Field Alumnae!

I hope this message finds you all doing well and enjoying what is left of the beautiful summer!  I am very much looking forward to the Fall and getting to see the athletes once again.  I hope you are all excited to see some big things happen for UWL Women’s Track and Field this year.  I can assure you that this will be a season to remember!

The realities of the COVID-19 pandemic have presented many challenges to us all.  One of those challenges is staying connected during a time of social-distancing.  It is our aim to continue to provide updates and opportunities for our alums to stay informed and up-to-date on all things having to do with our program.  Therefore, I am reaching out to present our new Women’s Track & Field Alumnae page!    Team Photo

Although the 2019-20 ended abruptly due to the coronavirus, it is important that we take the time to celebrate the many great things that our program achieved.  Some of our program highlights include:

- Winning the Indoor WIAC Championships by 103 points over UW-Eau Claire, while earning Track (Savannah Rygiewicz), Field (Skye Digman),and  Scholar-Athlete of the Year (Bri Schyvinck) awards.  In addition, our staff was named the WIAC Coaching Staff of the Year

- Qualifying 16 women to the NCAA Indoor Championships and earning a national ranking of #1 overall, heading into the NCAA Indoor Championships

- Leading the country with 24 USTFCCCA All-Academic Honorees and boasting a spring semester GPA of 3.65

These are only a few of the many feats we accomplished this year.  I am excited to say, that nearly everyone is coming back to compete again this year, in addition to the outstanding recruiting class we are bringing in to join the current team.  I am very confident that our team will build upon our successes of last year.

Given the way our season ended last year, we have some unfinished business to attend to and to build upon the great things we’ve accomplished, we need the help of our alumnae.  As you know, these are trying times for many universities and athletic programs at the college level.  With some sport seasons already being canceled, the budgets of athletic departments across the country are being cut, and in some cases, teams are being discontinued.  We are very fortunate at UWL to have such great support from the university, but we are not without our challenges.

Giving to the Women’s Track and Field program helps to preserve the culture that you all thrived in while you were here.  Your donation helps to provide opportunities for our women to push themselves beyond the boundaries they thought they had, affording them the chance to compete with the very best in the country.  Your donation helps to provide mentorship and guidance in the form of coaches who will make lasting impacts on our athletes.  Your donation helps us to purchase equipment to keep our team on the cutting edge of training.  Perhaps most importantly, your donation helps to enhance the overall experience of our women which they will take with them into the world that awaits them.  While I know times are tough for many, I ask you all to consider giving back to the UWL Women’s Track and Field program as we continue to build confident, successful women who seek to bring back another title to our great university.

In the year that lies ahead, there are many uncertainties.  As the head coach of this program, I am grateful to be able to rely on the support of our many Eagle alums.  I thank you all for what you have given in the past and what you may give in the future, whether that be a monetary donation, a letter in the mail, or a post on our social media accounts.  Your connection to our current team is valued and much appreciated and I cannot wait to see you all at Mitchell Hall on Saturday, January 16th for the 2021 UWL Track and Field Alumnae Meet!

Stay safe, health, and happy!

All the best,

Nickolas Davis
