Fourth Straight Shutout to Start Season Helps UWL Win Home Opener over Gustavus Adolphus; Three Players Record Goal

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team improved to 4-0 with a 3-0 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) Wednesday night in the Eagles' home opener at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Gusties drop to 1-2-1.

UWL recorded its fourth shutout of the season on Wednesday. It marks the third time in the last four years, including second straight, the Eagles have started the season with four consecutive shutouts. UWL recorded four straight shutouts to start the 2023 season.

The Eagles won their seventh straight home opener and improved to 92-16-12 at home under head coach Jason Murphy, including 49-2-5 in the last six seasons.

SERIES RECORD
* In the first meeting between the teams since 2021, UWL now leads the all-time series, 9-2-2, with Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.). The Eagles are 9-0-2 in the last 11 meetings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
* UWL scored a pair of goals in the first half. Jillian Sawadski gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead at 13:39. Grace Williams made it 2-0 at 42:33 with assists from Macy Evans and Kate Heiderscheit.
* UWL finished with 20 shots in the first half while holding Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) without a shot.
* UWL totaled seven corner kicks in the first half.
* Aubree Caya extended the lead to 3-0 at 58:26 off assists from Sera Speltz and Megan McNeely.

UWL LEADERS
* UWL finished with a season-high 39 shots, including a season-high 22 on goal. The Eagles also had a season-high 12 corner kicks.

* Thirteen players recorded a shot. Caya led the Eagles with 10 shots while Grace had a team-high four shots on goal. Caya, Sawadski and Ella Opie each had three shots on goal.
* Summer Nicolai and Kayda Aeby combined for the shutout victory. Nicolai earned the win with two saves in 69:40 while Aeby played the final 20:20 in goal.

GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS LEADERS
* Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) finished with two shots, both coming on goal. The Gusties had one corner kick.
* Kate Hamski and Brayleigh Sumner each had one shot on goal.
* Katelyn Olson suffered the loss, registering 17 saves.

* UWL hosts Millikin University (Ill.) on Saturday, September 12 at 5 p.m. for Parents' Night.
