Eagles Offense Erupts For 29 Runs In WIAC Sweep Of UW-Platteville; Walton (2), Viniard, Fleishman and Ramos All Homer

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Baseball team got back on track as they swept a doubleheader with UW-Platteville on Wednesday afternoon. 

THE BASICS

  • Records: UW-La Crosse 24-8, WIAC 15-5, UW-Platteville 16-15, WIAC 7-13
  • Up Next: UWL will continue WIAC play on Saturday and Sunday as they travel to Stevens Point, Wis. to take on the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. and 12 p.m. on both days.

HOW IT HAPPENED
   
Game One 
  • UWL scored four runs with two outs in the top of the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. Andrew Palm drove in the first run with an RBI double while Sam Viniard drove in a run with a single. Keegan Fleishman followed that with a 2-run home run to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead. 
  • A Brady Burrill sacrifice fly would score AJ Levy from third to extend the Eagles lead to 5-0 after two innings.
  • With one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, Chris Calico singled and stole second base. Charley Rowan's double would then score Calico from second to make it 6-0. 
  • The Pioneers would get on the score board in the top of the fifth inning on Anthony Massa's 2-run home run to cut their deficit to 6-2. 
  • The bottom of the fifth inning started with back-to-back singles by Viniard and Fleischman followed by Emiliano Ramos' double to give the Eagles a 7-2 lead. Luke Walton would then hit his third a home run of the season, which scored Fleischman and Ramos to make it 10-2. 
  • UWL would add five runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth to give the Eagles a 15-2 lead. Driving in runs for the Eagles was Ramos (2), Rowan (2) and Calico.

    Game Two
  • Calico led off game two with a walk and stole second base before scoring on Burrill's double to center field. Palm would walk before Viniard doubled to left center to score both Burrill and Palm to make it 3-0. After Ramos was hit by a pitch, Walton hit his second 3-run home run of the day to give UWL a 6-0 lead after one inning. 
  • The Pioneers would get a run in the top of the second as Dylan Rippentrop singled and scored on Mason Molitor's double. 
  • In the Eagles half of the second inning, UWL added four more runs including a 2-run home run by Viniard to lead 10-1.
  • Molitor led off the fourth inning for the Pioneers with a doulbe and advanced to third on Evan Bohr's bunt single. With the bases loaded, Caleb Parker doubled to left center which cleared the bases and cut the UW-Platteville's deficit to 10-4. 
  • Parker would drive in another run in the sixth inning with a single to make it 10-5. 
  • With the bases loaded, Ramos would give the Eagles a 14-5 lead with his sixth home run of the season in the seventh inning. Before the home run, Palm was hit by a pitch and Fleischman walked. Viniard then reached on an error to load the bases.

Game One
  • Offensively, UWL finished with 15 runs on 17 hits and five walks. 
  • UWL finished with five guys recording multi-hit games including Calico (3-for-3, 2 walks, RBI), Viniard (3-for-4, 3 runs scored, RBI), Fleischman (3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored), Rowan (2-for-4, 2 doubles, 3 RBIs) and Ramos (2-for-3, 2 doubles, 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored).  
  • Trace Vrbancic (1-1) earned his first win of the season as he allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five in 5.0 innings of work. Connor Curtis pitched the final two innings as he allowed just two hits. 
  • Pierce Nelson suffered the loss for the Pioneers as he allowed five runs on six hits and two walks in 1.0 innings. 
  • Massa finished the game 3-for-4, HR, 2 RBIs) to lead UW-Platteville offensively. 
 Game Two
  • UWL finished with 14 runs on nine hits and four walks in game two.
  • Viniard led the Eagles offensively in game two as he finished 2-for-2 with a home run, a walk, four RBIs and three runs scored while Burrill was 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored. 
  • Nate Edelman (3-0) came on in relief to earn the win as he allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six in 4.1 innings. 
  • UW-Platteville finished the second game with seven runs on 14 hits and four walks.
  • Cade Voelker (0-1) allowed four runs on two hits and two walks in 0.2 innings of work.  
  • Parker finished game two 3-for-6 with four RBIs while Molitor was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored.
