Pitching Leads Eagles To Doubleheader Sweep Over UW-Stout; Curtis Throws Complete Game; Ramos and Fleischmann Hit Home Runs

Menomonie, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Baseball team completed a four game series sweep with two more wins over UW-Stout on Saturday.

  • Up Next: UWL will take a break from Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action when they travel to Northfield, Minn. to play a doubleheader against St. Olaf College. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
   
Game One 
  • The Eagles jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning as Chris Calico singled and advanced to second on a single by Charley Rowan. Brady Burrill would then hit a single to score Calico while Andrew Palm's single brought home Burrill. After a single by Luke Walton moved Palm to second, Emiliano Ramos was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sam Viniard would bring Palm home on a ground out to make it 3-0.
  • Austin Miller led off the bottom of the second with a home run to cut the Eagles lead to 3-1. 
  • UWL would add three more runs in the third inning as Luke Walton, Keegan Fleischman and AJ Levy each drove in a run with singles to lead 6-1. 
  • The score remained 6-1 until the ninth when Levy singled, advanced to third on Calico's single and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Rowan. 

    Game Two
  • Fleischman put the Eagles on the score board in the top of the second inning with his first home run of the season. 
  • Ramos hit his fifth home run on the year to make it 2-0 in favor of the Eagles. 
  • In the top of the sixth inning, Burrill singled, stole second and advanced to third on a pass ball. Palm would then walk and steal second base before a wild pitch allowed Burrill to score and Palm to go to third. Ramos would then score Palm from third on a ground out to the pitcher to give UWL a 4-0 lead. 
  • UWL took a 7-0 lead with three runs on a hit, two hit batsman, an error and a walk in the seventh inning. Walton drove in a run with a sacrifice fly while Calico scored on a throwing error and Rowan scored on a wild pitch. 
  • The Eagles would add a run in the eighth and three more in the ninth to lead 11-0.

Game One
  • UWL finished with seven runs on 14 hits offensively.
  • Calico finished 3-for-5 with a run scored while Palm was 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the Eagles offense. 
  • Also finishing with multi-hit games was Rowan (2-for-4, RBI), Walton (2-for-4, RBI) and Levy (2-for-4, RBI and run scored). 
  • AJ Curtis (3-2) earned the complete game win as he allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out eight. 
  • UW-Stout finished with one run on three  hits and two walks. 
  • Cole Harris (0-1) suffered the loss as he allowed six runs on 10 hits in 2.2 innings of work. 
  • Miller finished 1-for-4 with a home run to lead the Blue Devils.  
 Game Two
  • UWL finished with 11 runs on eight hits and 10 walks in game two.
  • Fleischman finished 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks, an RBI and a run scored while Ramos was 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two RBIs and a run scored.  
  • Aaron Schwechler (1-0) earned the win for the Eagles as he went 6.0 innings and allowed three hits and three walks while striking out eight.  
  • UW-Stout finished the second game with three hits and three walks. 
  • Antonio Zeer (0-2) allowed two runs on three hits and two walks in 5.0 innings to suffer the loss.
