Waukesha, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team defeated LaGrange College (Ga.) Friday night in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Dvision III Women's Basketball First Round.

NCAA Tournament History: For the second straight season, UWL wins its opening round NCAA III Tournament game and improves to 7-6 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
Next Up: UWL advances to play Carroll University (Wis.) in the NCAA III Women's Basketball Second Round on Saturday, March 7 at 7:45 p.m. Carroll defeated DePauw University (Ind.) 74-67 in the first round on Friday night.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
- UWL scores the first 11 points to force a LaGrange timeout with 4:36 left in the first quarter. The Eagles would extend that lead to 14-0 before the Panthers scored a basket with 2:15 on the clock. Malia Nelson would hit back-to-back three-pointers followed by a three-pointer from Katie Waukau during the early offensive run for the Eagles. UWL would lead 20-8 at the end of the first quarter.
- After LaGrange cut their deficit to 23-11 on a free throw, UWL would score 13 of the next 17 points to lead 36-15 with 1:55 left in the second quarter.The Panthers would score the final four points of the quarter to trail 36-19 at halftime.
- Molly Janke would open the third quarter with a three-pointer to help the Eagles open the second half on a 13-2 run to extend its lead to 49-21 (6:50). Grace Knupp would score eight points during the Eagles run. UWL would lead 57-36 at the end of the third quarter.
- Janke would score the first eight points of the fourth quarter and UWL would score 13 of the first 15 points to extend its lead to its largest of the game at 70-36 (7:17). LaGrange would not get any closer than 26 the rest of the way.

- As a team, the Eagles finished 30-of-64 (46.9%) from the floor including 10-of-26 (38.5%) from the three-point line. UWL was also eight-of-12 (66.7%) from the free throw line.
- UWL was led by four scorers in double figures including Janke with 14 points.
- Jenna Welsch and Nelson each finished with 12 points, while Knupp added 11 points.
- Janke and Nelson each recorded double-doubles as they had 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively. As a team, UWL had a 50-32 advantage on the glass.
- Nelson added six assists while Knupp finished with four.
- LaGrange College shot 20-of-63 (31.7%) from the floor including five-of-18 (27.8%) from the three-point line. The Panthers also shot seven-of-14 (50%) from the free throw line.
- Laila Battle led the Panthers with 18 points while Amanda Mclendon added 10 points.
