Two Shutouts Extends Eagles Win Streak To 10 Games; Deprez Records 12 Strikeouts; Curtis Complete Game Shutout

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Baseball team extended its win streak to 10 games with two shutouts of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foe UW-River Falls on Sunday afternoon.

  • Up Next: The Eagles will be back in action on Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4 when they host UW-Whitewater for a four game series. The doubleheader on Friday is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. while first pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 12 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
   
Game One 
  • With two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Luke Walton tripled to deep center field to score Andrew Palm from first base and put UWL up 1-0. 
  • UWL would add three runs in the bottom of the third inning highlighted by a Sam Viniard two-run home run, his first of the season. With one out, Chris Calico doubled, stole third base and scored on a throwing error. Then with two outs, Lash doubled and scored on Viniard's home run to put UWL up 4-0. 
  • Keegan Fleischman led off the fourth inning with a double and came into scored on Luke Walton's two-run home run to right field. The home run was Walton's first of the season.  
  • Walton was hit by a pitch to start the Eagle sixth inning and then with one out Emiliano Ramos hit a towering home run over the scoreboard in center field to put the Eagles up 8-0. It was Ramos'first home run of the season. Then with two outs, Charley Rowan and Lash both walked. Evan Schmidt then pinch hit for the Eagles and walked to load the bases. Andrew Palm would then drive in two runs with a double that scored Rowan and Mark Manders, who was pinch running for Lash, to make it 10-0.

    Game Two
  • Calico led of game two with a triple for the Eagles and scored on Rowan's single to center field for the early 1-0 win. 
  • In the third inning, Calico and Lash hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Then with one out, Viniard hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Calico to extend the Eagles lead to 2-0. 
  • Back-to-back home runs by Ramos adn Calico in the seventh inning makes it 4-0 Eagles. 
  • UWL would add three runs on two hits in the eighth inning. With one out, Keegan Fleischman was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on Brady Burrill's double. Calvin Hargrove then reached on a fielders choice which brought Fleischman to score. Ramos then executed a sacrifice bunt that would score Burrill from third. Calico would then single to left to score Hargrove from second and extend UWL's lead to 7-0.

Game One
  • Offensively, UWL finished with 10 runs on nine hits and six walks. 
  • Lash (2-for-3, 2 doubles, a walk and a run scored) and Walton (2-for-2, HR, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored) both had multi-hit games to lead the Eagle offense.
  • Palm would finish 1-for-1 with two walks, 2 RBIs and a run scored. 
  • AJ Curtis (2-2) would record the complete game shutout for the Eagles as he allowed five hits and two walks while striking out eight in 7.0 innings. 
  • UW-River Falls scored finished five hits and two walks.
  • Max Krebs finished 2-for-3 for the Falcons. 
  • Brett Sullivan (1-2) suffered the loss for the Falcons as he allowed five runs on five hits and one walk while striking out one in 3.0 innings. 
 Game Two
  • UWL finished with seven runs on 10 hits and four walks in game two. 
  • Calico reached base five times in game as he was two 4-for-4 with a home run, a triple, a walk, 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs to lead the Eagles offense.
  • Ramos was 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk, 2 RBIs and a run scored.
  • Owen Deprez (2-0) recorded 12 strikeouts and allowed five hits in 8.0 innings of work while Austin Olla pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning including two strikeouts to complete the shutout. It is the Eagles third shutout of the weekend. 
  • The Falcons offense finished was limited to just five hits.
  • Tanner Hraby finished 2-for-4 for the Falcons.  
  • Cade Bruett (0-1) suffered the loss for the Falcons as he allowed three runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out three in 6.0 innings.
