Stevens Point, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team captured the UW-Stevens Point Invitational Saturday in the UWSP Aquatics Center.
The Eagles finished with 1,144.5 team points with Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) second with 1,049.0, UW-Stevens Point third with 946.5 and UW-Eau Claire fourth with 67.0..
UWL won the 400 freestyle relay with
Jacob Ketterling,
Preston Nygaard,
Caleb Jondle and
Tyler Hartmann (3:10.27) with the 200 medley relay of
Coby Zander,
Jackson Preusse, Nick Ellerd and
Luca Nociti third (1:39.42).
Individually,
Gavin LaBeau won the 200 freestyle (1:47.48) while
Jonah Elfers took the 100 butterfly (52.92).
Sean Gillett was second (53.88) in the 100 butterfly.
Nygaard won the 100 breaststroke (55.47) with Hartmann second (57.96) while Hartmann was first in the 50 freestyle (21.31). Nygaard set his second school record of the invitational with his time of 55.47 in the 100 breaststroke. He broke the record of 55.54 set by Adam Baryenbruch in 2021. Nygaard also set a UWSP Aquatics Center record in the 100 breaststroke. William Buhler of UW-Stevens Point held the previous record of 55.74 in 2021.
Jesse Hammes was second (21.61) and Nociti third (21.93) in the 50 freestyle.
Ketterling won the 200 backstroke (1:57.98). Jondle was second (4:20.70) and
Owen Acker third (4:24.87) in the 400 I.M.
UWL returns to action Saturday, January 31 hosting UW-Stevens Point in Mitchell Hall. Diving starts at 10 a.m. and swimming events at 2 p.m.
