Madison, Wis. - Each week during the 2025-26 academic year, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) will feature two student-athletes (one male and one female) from one of its eight institutions for a "Student-Athlete Spotlight" Q&A segment. The segments will be posted every Thursday and individuals are selected by the institution. The WIAC Student-Athlete Spotlights are presented by Culver's.

Kade Van Asten of
Little Chute (H.S.) is in his fourth year as a member of UWL's basketball team. He has played in 26 career games, scoring a career-high three points versus Ripon College (Wis.), North Park University (Ill.) and Saint John's University (Minn.).
He is a finance major and economics minor.

Why did you choose UW-La Crosse?
I choose La Crosse because of how much I loved the campus and the education I was going to get from it.
What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete?
My favorite thing about competing for the WIAC is how competitive each game is. My favorite thing about being a Division III athlete is all the new people I was able to meet.

Even if you don't play as many minutes as you want to, you still have a big role on the team.
One word that describes you?
Fun.
