Box Score 2 Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team split a pair of matches on day 2 of the Augsburg University (Minn.) Invitational as they defeated Grinnell College (Iowa) but fell to Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Saturday.

- After Grinnell scored the first point of the match, UWL did not trail again again in the first set. Back-to-back service aces by Taylor Larson would give UWL a 10-7 lead. After Grinnell got their deficit to 15-13, UWL got a kill and back-to-back service aces by Kailyn Kurth to extend their lead to 18-13. Service aces five and six for the Eagles, both by Kayla Sexton, helped UWL take its largest lead at 21-14 and UWL would go on to take set one 25-18.
- UWL built an early 6-2 lead in the secon set but Grinnell responded with an 8-0 run to take a 10-6 lead. Grinnell would take a 17-14 lead before UWL scored six of the next nine points to regain the lead at 20-19. Kills by Maddy Wilson and Reese Yocum would give UWL a 23-21 lead; however, Grinnell scored three straight points to lead 24-23. Kills by Yocum and Grace Turlais follwed by a Grinnell hitting error secured a 26-24 win for the Eagles in set two.
- The Eagles once again took an early 6-2 lead and would extend that lead to 14-8 midway through the third set. Grinnell would cut their deficit to 15-12 but that would be as close as they would get as UWL scored 10 of the final 14 points to win the third set 25-16. UWL scored the final five points of the match including Megan Lund recording two services aces as UWL finished with 14 as a team.

- Grace Nommensen and Yocum led the Eagles offense as they recorded nine and eight kills, respectively.
- Grace Turlais and Annie Werner each added five kills apiece for the Eagles.
- Lund recorded a double-double for the Eagles as she recorded team highs in assists (19), digs (17) and service aces (4).
- Larson and Kayla Sexton also finished in double digits in digs as they had 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) 3, UW-La Crosse 0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-22)
- Trailing 4-3, Gustavus Adolphus scored seven straight to take a 10-4 lead. Five straight points for the Eagles cut UWL's deficit to 13-11; however, the Gusties scored eight of the next 10 points to lead 21-13. UWL did not go away quietly as they would tie the game at 24 before Gustavus got back to back kills to take the first set 26-24.
- Gustavus would take an early 6-2 lead before UWL scored six straight to lead 8-6. With the second set tied at 10, Gustavus went on a 9-2 run to pull away and take a 19-12 lead. The Eagles would not be able to get closer than six (23-17) as the Gusties won set two 25-18.
- UWL started hot in the third set as they built an early 7-2 lead to force a Gustavus timeout. UWL would extend their lead to 19-12 before Gustavus went on an 8-0 run to take a 20-19 lead. The Eagles tied it at 20 but Gustavus scored five of the final seven points to win set three 25-22.
FROM THE BOXSCORE
- Nommensen, Yocum and Sexton each finished with six kills while Wilson added five.
- Lund had another double-double as she finished with 15 assists and 11 digs.
- Larson led the Eagles defense with 12 digs.

- UWL will open their home portion of their schedule on Wednesday, September 10th as they host St. Mary's University (Minn.) and Luther College (Iowa) for a triangular. The Eagles will play St. Mary's at 3 p.m. and Luther at 7 p.m..
