Eagles Extend Win Streak To Four With Wins Over Edgewood and Loras

Dubuque, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team extended their win streak to four matches as they won a pair at the Loras College (Iowa) Triangular.

  • UWL started fast in the first set as they scored five of the first six points but Edgewood quickly responded and took a 10-9 lead. Trailing 18-17, UWL scored seven of the next nine points to lead 24-20. After a Molly Amendt kill would make it 24-21, Kayla Sexton sealed the win, 25-21, for the Eagles with a kill of her. 
  • UWL took an early 8-3 lead in the second set and eventually extended that lead to 12-6 before Edgewood scored four straight to tail 12-10. The Eagles would take a 24-19 lead before Edgewood scored three straight to pull within 24-22. Grace Turlais would end the run by Edgewood with a kill to win set two 25-22.
  • With the third set tied 5-5, UWL outscored Edgewood 6-1 to take an 11-6 lead. Edgewood pulled with 12-10 but the Eagles went on a 4-1 run to take a 15-10 lead. Edgewood would not get any closer than four (19-15) as UWL took the third set 25-16.

  • UWL would get off to a slow start in set one as Loras College (Iowa) open the match on a 12-2 run. The Duhawks would extend their lead to 18-4 and the Eagles would not get any closer than 11 (21-10) the rest of the way. 
  • The Eagles would get off to a better start in the second set as they scored four of the first five points to lead 4-1. After Loras tied the score at 11, UWL scored eight of the next 10 points to lead 19-13. Loras trimmed their deficit to 20-16 with three straight points but UWL then scored four in a row including two service aces by Larson to lead 24-16. Loras would fight of three straight set points to trail 24-19 but that would be as close as they would get as the Duhawks recorded a service error as the Eagles won set two 25-19.
  • Trailing 11-6 in the third set, Loras went on a 9-1 run to lead 15-12. The Eagles slowly chipped away at their deficit saw themselves trailing 21-18 before they win on a 5-0 run to lead 23-21. Wilson would record two kills while Megan Jasperson had a service ace to spark the mini run for the Eagles. The two teams would then trade points back and forth until Sexton record a kill to give the Eagles a 25-23 win in set three.
  • UWL jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the fourth set which saw Kaily Kurth record two service aces and serve seven straight. After three straight points by the Duhawks made it 9-6, UWL scored five straight to extend their lead to 14-6. The Duhawks would not be able to dig themselves of the large deficit as they would not get any closer than seven (18-11) as UWL took the fourth set 25-15.

  • Sexton once again led the offense for the Eagles as she finished with 16 kills. She also had 12 digs for her second double-double of the day. 
  • Wilson hit .444 with nine kills and just one error in 18 attempts. She also finished with a solo block and two assisted blocks. 
  • Lund and Kaily Kurth ran the offense for the Eagles as they finished with 23 and 17 assists respectively.
  • Larson finished with a match high 28 digs while Megan Jasperson chipped in 10.

  • UWL will return to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conferce (WIAC) on Wednesday, October 1 when they travel to Whitewater, Wis. to play nationally ranked UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
