La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 6-0 victory over UW-Superior Tuesday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Yellowjackets drop to 0-2 on the season.
Ella Opie recorded one goal and one assist.
The Eagles improve to 25-0 all-time with the Yellowjackets, including 22 victories by shutout. UWL has 12 straight shutouts in the series with UW-Superior, not allowing a goal since a 3-2 victory in 2005.Â
It marks UWL's second straight shutout after a 7-0 win over Carroll University (Wis.) on August 29. Â
The Eagles scored four first half goals in Tuesday's win with
Aubree Caya recording the first two of the game. She scored at 6:22 off
Jillian Sawadski's assist. Caya made it 2-0 at 26:56 on
Ella Opie's assist. UWL extended its lead to 3-0 at 30:16 as Sawadski scored off Caya's assist.
Emily Pikarski made it 4-0 with
Claire Rankin registering the assist at 39:13.Â
UWL finished with 14 shots in the first half and four corner kicks.Â
Opie gave UWL a 5-0 lead at 54:46 on
Megan McNeely's assist and
Grace Williams finished the scoring at 83:07 off
Katelyn Studebaker's assist.Â
The Eagles totaled 32 shots in the game, including 14 on goal. Caya and Opie each had five shots with Caya finishing with four on goal and Opie with three. Williams, Studebaker andÂ
Jessica Stewart recorded four shots. Williams had two shots on goal. UWL finished with nine corner kicks.
UW-Superior was held to one shot with it coming on goal from Kasja Kovala.Â

in the second half.
Summer Nicolia and
Robin Blair combined on the shutout with Nicolai earning the win while playing the first half. Blair recorded one save in playing the second half. Quinn Clark took the loss for UW-Superior, finishing with seven saves. The Yellowjackets had one team save in the game.
UWL returns to action Friday, September 5 hosting Lawrence University (Wis.) at 4 p.m.
