UWL Remains Undefeated with Win at Edgewood; Eagles Record Fifth Shutout of Season

Madison, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team, ranked 25th on this week's United Soccer Association NCAA Division III Poll, improved to 6-0 on the season with a 4-0 win at Edgewood University (Wis.) Sunday afternoon at Reddan Park. The Eagles of Edgewood (Wis.) drop to 4-2-1. 

It is UWL's fifth shutout of the season. 

The 6-0 start is the second straight year for the Eagles. UWL started a school best 7-0 in 1999 and 2023. 

Jillian Sawadski got the scoring started at 9:23 with an assist from Katelyn Studebaker to make it 1-0. The Eagles took a 2-0 lead at 34:08 on Grace Williams' goal off a Kaitlyn Kurtz assist. 

UWL outshot Edgewood (Wis.), 23-1, in the first half. The Eagles held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. 

Aubree Caya extended the lead to 3-0 at 46:14 on a Sawadski assist. Studebaker closed the scoring at 54:55. 

The Eagles finished with 40 shots in the game, including 12 on goal. Studebaker recorded nine shots with three on goal while Williams finished with six shots, including three on goal. Amaya Thesing had four shots, including two on goal. 

Erelyn Apel earned the shutout in goal. 

Edgewood (Wis.) totaled two shots in the game without any on goal. The Eagles had two corner kicks. 

Madeline Brown suffered the loss, playing the first half while allowing two goals and registering five saves. Emma Swenson played in the second half in goal, finishing with three saves while allowing two goals. 

UWL returns to action Thursday, September 18 hosting Simpson College (Iowa) at 6 p.m.
