Six Players Score in Road Win at Millikin; Murphy Records 200th Career Victory

Decatur, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 6-2 win at Millikin University (Ill.) Saturday afternoon at Frank M. Lindsay Field. The Big Blue fall to 3-2-1. 

With the win, UWL Head Coach Jason Murphy earned his 200th career victory, improving to 200-76-27 (.705) overall. He is now 159-43-25 (.756) at UWL after finishing 41-33-2 (.553) at Marian University (Wis.) from 2010-13.

In the first-ever meeting between the teams, UWL took a 1-0 lead with Amaya Thesing scoring at 8:06. The Eagles, playing in their first road game of the season, extended the lead to 2-0 at 10:13 as Aubree Caya scored off Katelyn Studebaker's assist.  

Jillian Sawadski gave UWL a 3-0 lead at 12:44 on a Caya assist. The Eagles tallied two more goals in the first half with Grace Williams scoring at 32:35 to make it 4-0 and Sera Speltz scoring at 33:56 on Kate Heiderscheit's assist.

Millikin (Ill.) cut the lead to 5-1 at 39:39 on a Hailie Schafman goal. It was UWL's first goal allowed this season.

The Big Blue made it 5-2 at 63:38 on Izzy Jones' goal off Avery Bingham's assist. The Eagles finished the scoring at 79:11 as Logan Fritsch scored.

UWL, ranked 25th on this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Top-25 Poll, totaled 22 shots in the game with 15 on goal. Caya, Speltz, Williams and Monica Wawrzyn each had three shots. Williams had a team-high three shots on goal with Caya, Speltz and Ella Opie finished with two.

The Eagles had all five of the game's corner kicks.

Summer Nicolia earned the win in goal, recording two saves.

Millikin (Ill.) finished with seven shots as Schafman and Jones each recorded two. Both players one shot on goal.

Madalyn Everly took the loss for the Big Blue, registering seven saves while allowing five goals in the first half. Jessica Bearley played the second half, recording one save. Millikin (Ill.) had two teams saves.

UWL returns to action Sunday, September 14 at Edgewood University (Wis.) at 3 p.m.
