Baseball Finishes Regular Season With Sweep; Born Breaks WIAC All-Time Hits Record; WIAC Tournament Up Next

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Baseball team finished the regular season with a sweep of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foe UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
   
Game One 
  • The Eagle offense exploded for nine runs on 10 hits. Nate Witte led off the game with a single to right field and scored on Emiliano Ramos's double to center field. George Seaman would then hit his team leading 14th home run to make it 3-0. After Andrew Rajkovich walked, Anthony Vivian made it 5-0 with his eighth home run. Logan Pye and Calvin Hargrove followed with back-to-back singles before the second out of the inning. Witte would record his second single of the season to score Pye while Ramos' second hit of the inning loaded the bases. A Mac Born single would score both Witte and Hargrove to put UWL up 8-0 while Seaman's single brought home Ramos to make in 9-0.
  • The Pointers would get one run back in the top of the second inning on an RBI double by Brennan Huber. 
  • With two outs in the bottom of the third inning, Ramos walked followed by Born's sixth home run of the season to give UWL a 11-1 lead.
  • UW-Stevens Point would load the bases with no outs in the top of the fourth with two singles and a walk. A Jackson Adams RBI single and Anthony Tomczak sacrifice fly would cut the Pointers deficit to 11-3. 
  • A single run in the top of the fifth inning for the Pointers would make it 11-4. 
  • The final three runs of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Eagles led of with four singles from Born, Seaman, Rajkovich and Vivian. Born would come around to score on Rajkovich's while Seaman scored on Vivian's. After reaching third when Logan Pye reached on a fielders choice, Rajkovich then scored on Calvin Hargrove's ground out to make it 14-4. Jack Olver then brought Pye into score with his double to center field to extend the Eagles lead to 15-4. 

    Game Two
  • Both teams would score runs in the first inning as UW-Stevens Point got a triple from Colton Martell and RBI ground out from Nick Argersinger for the early 1-0 lead. 
  • UWL would respond by getting two runs in the their half of the first inning. Witte led off with a single and advanced to second on Luke Walton's single. Born then drove in his fifth run of the day with a single to left field that scored Witte. UW-Stevens Point would retire the next two Eagles before Olver walked to load the bases. Vivian was then hit by a pitch which brought Walton in to score to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
  • UWL would break the game open in the fourth inning as they scored eight runs on five hits and two errors. Vivian and Alec Campbell led off the inning by reaching base via a hit batsman. James Rae would then reach on a fielders choice sacrifice bunt to load the bases. Witte then singled to score Vivian while Walton reached on a fielding error that allowed Campbell to score. Born then drove in Rae and Witte with a single to make it 6-1. Seaman would hit his second home run of the day to put the Eagles up 9-1. With one out, Olver doubled and scored on Vivian's single for the final run of the inning (10-1). 
  • The Eagles would add four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 14-1. With one out, Vivian singled and advanced to second when Campbell walked. Rae then singled which scored Eli Roberts who was pinch running for Vivian. Witte's single would bring both Rae and Campbell home while Witte scored when Cam Dupont reached on a fielding error for the final run of the game.

Game One
  • Offensively, UWL finished with 15 runs on 18 hits and two walks.
  • Isaiah Katz (7-1) earned the win for the Eagles as he allowed four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out seven in 5.0 innings. Mitchel Fassbender pitched the final 2.0 innings, not allowing a hit and striking out two.  
  • Witte (4-5 with two runs scored and an RBI), Born ( 3-for-4 HR, four RBIs and two runs scored), Seaman (3-for-4 HR, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored) and Vivian (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) led the Eagles offense. 
  • The Pointers finished with four runs on nine hits and five walks. 
  • Nick Paulsen (1-4) suffered the loss for the Pointers as he allowed eight runs on seven hits and a walk in 0.2 innings.
  • Huber led the Pointers going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. 
 Game Two
  • UWL finished with 14 runs on 12 hits and two walks in game two. 
  • Born finished game two 2-for-5 with three RBIs. With his two hits, Born broke the WIAC All-time hits record as he now has 321 hits for his career. Born surpasses Bradley Comer who set the record last season at UW-Stevens Point. 
  • Witte added three hits (3-for-5, three runs scored) while Walton (2-for-4, two runs scored) and Vivian (2-for-2, two RBIs) each had two hits. 
  • Owen Anderson (3-2) earned the win on the mound for the Eagles as he allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out six in 6.0 innings. 
  • The Pointers finished with one run on four hits and one walk.
  • Isaiah Piscitell (2-5) suffered the loss for the pointers as he allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out five in 3.0 innings. 
  • Martell led the Pointers offense in game two as he finished 1-for-3 with a run scored.
