Baseball Splits Doubleheader WIth Top Ranked UW-Whitewater

Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Baseball team split a doubleheader with #1 ranked UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon. 

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
   
Game One 
  • UWL got off to a fast start in game one as they took a 5-0 lead in the first inning of game one. Chris VandenHeuvel led off the game with a single and advanced to second when Anthony VIvian walked. Mac Born's single would scored VandenHeuvel while Jack Olver's double would score Vivian to make it 2-0. Born would score on a wild pitch before the Warhawks recorded the first out of the inning. Cam Dupont then hit his first home run of the season which brought Olver in as well to give UWL the early 5-0 lead.
  • VandenHeuvel would reach with a one out single in the second inning and advanced to second when Vivian reached via a hit by pitch. After a ground out moved VandenHeuvel to third and Vivian to second, Born doubled to score both and extend UWL's lead to 7-0.
  • An Aaron Holland solo home run would put UW-Whitewater on the scoreboard in the third inning to make it 7-1.
  • The Eagles would add three runs in the sixth inning as Born drove in a run with a sacrifice fly while Andrew Rajkovich's single scored two runs and make it 10-1 in favor of the Eagles. 
  • Keegan Fleischman led off the seventh inning with a single and advanced to second on a ground out. After another ground out, Vivian doubled tand advanced to third on a throwing which allowed Fleischman to score. Eli Roberts would pinch run for the Eagles and score on George Seaman's single for the final run of the game, 12-1.  

    Game Two
  • VIvian would give the Eagles an early1-0 lead with his sixth home run of the season in the first inning.
  • With one out in the Warhawk half of the first inning, Eli Frank hit a two-run home run which scored Matt Scolan who had reached with walk to put UWL up 2-1.
  • With UW-Whitewater leading 2-1 in the fifth inning, the Warhawks would score five runs on five hits and a walk. Scolan drove in run with a double while Frank brought a run in witch his single to make it 4-1. After a walk, Andy Theis brought in two runs with a double while Sam Paden's double scored  a run to make it 7-1. 
  • UWL would get two of those runs back in sixth inning as VandenHeuvel walked and scored on Born's third home run of the season to make it 7-3. 
  • The Warhawks added an insurance run in the seventh inning as Adam Cootway doubled and scored on Danny Hopper's single to make it 8-3. 

FROM THE BOX SCORE
   
Game One
  • Offensively, UWL finished with 12 runs on 14 hits and four walks. 
  • VandenHeuvel led the Eagles offense as he finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored while Vivian was 2-for-2 with two walks, three runs scored and an RBI.
  • Born finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored. 
  • Isaiah Katz (5-1) pitched a complete game to earn his fifth win of the season as he allowed one run on six hits and a walk while striking out six in 7.0 innings. 
  • The Warhawks finished with one run on six hits and a walk.
  • Cade Hansen (4-1) suffered the loss for the Warhawks as he allowed seven runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three in 2.0 innings. 
  • Holland led the Warhawk offense as he finished 2-for-3 with a home run. 
 Game Two
  • UWL finished with three runs on four hits and five walks in game two.
  • Born finished 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two RBIs and a run scored while Jack Olver was 1-for-2 with two walks. 
  • Owen Deprez (4-1) suffered the loss for the Eagles on the mound as he allowed sevens runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four in 4.0 inning. Tucker Bouche pitched the final 4.0 innings alowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out one.
  • UW-Whitewater finished with eight runs on 10 hits and seven walks.
  • Ben Lee (4-0) earned the win for the Warhawks as he allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five in 5.2 innings of work. 
  • Frank led the Warhawks offense as he finished 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored while Matt Scolan was 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI.
