Baseball Extends Win Streak To 11 Games; Completes Series Sweep Of UW-Stout

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Baseball team completed the series sweep of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe UW-Stout with a doubleheader sweep of UW-Stout with two wins Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
   
Game One 
  • Chris VandenHeuvel led off the game with a walk and stole second base. Nate Witte moved VandenHeuvel to third base with a single. VandenHeuvel then scored on a wild pitch to give UWL a 1-0 lead.
  • Andrew Rajkovich hit his fourth home run of the series to lead off the second inning to give UWL a 2-0 lead.
  • George Seaman would put UWL up 4-0 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. It was Seaman's team leading fifth home run of the season. 
  • UW-Stout would get a run in the fourth inning as Justin Sedin hit a solo home run.
  • With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Mac Born walked followed by Jack Olver's second home run to extend UWL's lead to 6-1. Emiliano Ramos and Calvin Hargrove then hit back-to-back singles. Then with two outs, Witte singled and reach second on a fielding error which scored Ramos and Hargorve to make it 8-1.
  • The Blue Devils would get a run in the top of the sixth inning on Sedin's sacrifice fly. 
  • UWL took a 9-2 run lead in the sixth inning as Seaman took a bases loaded walk to score Hargrove who had reached on a fielders choice. 
  • Then in the seventh inning, UWL scored four runs on five hits for the decisive score of 13-2. Hargrove and Luke Walton each drove in a run with singles while Seaman's double scored two runs. 
    Game Two
  • The Blue Devils would open the game with two solo home runs from Billy Jones and Sedin to take the early 2-0 lead. 
  • In the Eagles half of the first inning, Witte doubled with one out followed by Seaman's walk. Rajkovich then singled to load the bases. Witte then scored on Born's single while Seaman scored on a balk to tie it at 2. Rajkovich then scored on Anthony Vivian's sacrifice fly while Olver's single would score Born to make it 4-2.
  • AJ Kargel would get one of the runs back in the top of the second inning for UW-Stout on his solo home run (4-3). 
  • In UWL's half of the second inning, Alec Campbell led off with a single followed by VandenHeuvel's home run to give UWL a 6-3 lead. 
  • Leyten Bowers 2-run home run in the top of the third cut UWL's lead to 6-5. 
  • The Blue Devils would then score five runs on four hits to take a 10-6 lead. Bowers would provide the big hit with his second home run, a three run homer, while Colin Hageman drove in a run with a single as well.
  • UWL would get those five runs back in their half of the fourth inning. Witte walked to lead off the inning and advanced to second on Seaman's single. Rajkovich would then hit his second home run of the day to cut the Eagles deficit to 10-9. Born would single and advanced to second when Vivian walked. THen with two outs, Alec Campbell tripled to score two runs and give UWL a 11-10 lead. 
  • Rajkovich's single in the fifth inning would give UWL a 12-10 lead.
  • Austin Miller would hit a home run for the Blue Devils in the top of the seventh to cut their deficit to 12-11.
  • Vivian's three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning extended UWL's lead to 15-11. 
  • VandenHeuvel would camp the scoring for the Eagles as he hit his second home run of the day to put UWL up 16-11.

Game One
  • Offensively, UWL finished with 13 runs on 14 hits and five walks. 
  • Six Eagles had two hits apiece including Witte (2-for-4), Seaman (2-for-4), Rajkovich (2-for-4), Olver (2-for-4), Ramos (2-for-4) and Hargrove (2-for4). 
  • Seaman drove in five runs while Olver drove in two. 
  • Isaiah Katz (3-1) pitched the complete game for the win as he allowed two runs on five hits while walking one in seven innings.
  • Drew Buss (0-2) suffered the loss for the Blue Devils as he allowed eight runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out five in 4.0 innings of work.
  • Sedin led the Blue Devils offense as he finished 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs.
 Game Two
  • UWL finished with 16 runs on 16 hits and seven walks in game two.
  • Witte (3-for-4, four runs scored) and Rajkovich (3-for-4, four RBIs and three runs scored) led the Eagles.
  • VandenHeuvel (2-for-6, three RBIs, two runs scored), Born (2-for-5, two runs scored and an RBI) and Campbell (2-for-4, two RBIs and a run scored) also finished with multiple hits for UWL.
  • Tucker Bouche (1-0) came on in relief to earn the win as he allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out four in 3.1 innings. Caleb Matl pitched the final two innings as he did allow a Blue Devil to reach base and struck out two.
  • Quintin Gonzalez (0-1) suffered the loss for UW-Stout as he allowed three runs on four hits and one walk in 1.1 innings of relief pitching. 
  • Bowers (2-for-5, 2 HRs, five RBIs and two runs) and Kevin Zanin (3-for-5, 2 runs) led UW-Stout offensively.
