Eagles Remain Perfect On Spring Break Trip; Extend Win Streak To Six Games

Winter Haven, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team extended their win streak to six games as they defeated Augustana College (Ill.) on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kaileb Hackman gave Augustana an early 1-0 lead with his RBI double in the top of the first inning.
  • The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Vikings until UWL put up four runs on four hits and an error in the bottom of the first inning. Nate Witte led off the inning with a single and advance to third on a throwing error by the catcher as he attempted a stolen base. Chris VandenHeuvel then drove in Witte with a single. VandenHeuvel then advanced to second on a wild pitch and Anthony Vivian walked to put runners on first and second. George Seaman would then double to score VandenHeuvel while Mac Born's single scored Vivian to make it 3-1. Luke Walton would make it 4-1 with his sacrifice fly that scored Seaman. 
  • UWL would add a run in the six inning as Vivian led off by being hit by a pitch and advancing to second on Seaman's single. Then with one out, Vivian and Seaman moved up a base on a groundout by Walton. Andrew Rajkovich's single would then score Vivian to give UWL a 5-1 lead after six inning. 
  • Jack Olver's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning would extend UWL's lead to 6-1. 
  • The Vikings would not go away quietly as they put together a rally in the top of the ninth inning. Augustana would score two runs on two hits including an RBI single from Daniel Mosele and a sacrifice fly from Alex Simon. But that would be all the Vikings would get as they final batter grounded out to end the game. 

FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Offensively, UWL finished with six runs on nine hits and two walks.
  • Seaman led the Eagles offense going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored while WItte fininshed 2-for-4 with a run scored. 
  • Isaiah Katz (2-1) picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles as he allowed one unearned run on eight hits and one walk while striking out seven in seven innings of work. 
  • Tucker Bouche pitched the final two innings for UWL as he allowed two runs on two hits and a walk. 
  • Ethan McGraw (1-2) suffered the loss for the Vikings as he allowed four runs on four hits and a walk in 3.1 innings. 
  • Hackman (2-for-4, RBI) and Mosele (2-for-4, RBI) led Augustana offensively.
