UWL Finishes Spring Break Trip A Perfect 7-0; Defeats Union College In Final Game

Auburndale,  Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team finished their spring break trip a perfect 7-0 and extended their win streak to seven games as they defeated Union College (NY) on Monday morning.

  • Up Next: The Eagles will open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday March 29 and Sunday March 30 when they host Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foe UW-Stout at Copleland Park. First pitch is schedule for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UWL took a 1-0 lead in their half of the first inning as Nate Witte led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He then moved to third on Chris VandenHeuvel's single and scored on Anthony Vivian's single. 
  • With two outs in the second inning, Eli Roberts doubled and scored on Witte's single to make it 2-0. 
  • UWL would get two runs on three hits in the top of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. Vivian led off the inning with a double while George Seaman walked. Emiliano Ramos and Mac Born each drove in a run with a single. 
  • With the score still 4-0 in the top of the seventh inning, VandenHeuvel hit a one out single and advanced to second on Vivian's single. Seaman then hit his third home run of the season to give UWL a 7-0 lead.

FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Offensively, UWL finished with seven runs on 12 hits and three walks.
  • Vivian led the Eagles offense going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI while Seaman was 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, 2 runs scored and a walk. 
  • Chayce Osterhaus (3-0) came one in relief to earn his third win of the season by allowing seven hits while striking out five in 6.0 innings
  • Jacob Skarlis (0-2) suffered the loss for Union College as he allowed seven runs on 12 hits and one walk while striking out eight in 6.1 innings. 
  • AJ Cutler and Nico Lambros each finished with two hits to lead Union's offense.
