Verona, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team defeated Edgewood College (Wis.), 19-8, Wednesday night at Reddan Park. The Eagles improve to 2-2 on the season while the Edgewood (Wis.) Eagles fall to 0-4.
UWL scored the first five goals of the game on Wednesday.
Ava Schiltz scored on a free position shot to get the scoring started with 12:27 left in the first quarter. UWL's
Megan Maloney would score on an assist by Schiltz with 11:35 left in the first quarter to make it 2-0. In the final two minutes of the first quarter, the Eagles scored a goal from
Tori Katzenmeyer and two from Schiltz to make it 5-0. Edgewood (Wis.) would get on the board with a goal from Emma Raupp with :16 left in the quarter.
Edgewood (Wis.) scored the first two goals of the second period with Christina Eloe and Tatyana Ryan tightening the UWL lead to 5-3. The UWL Eagles scored the next three goals of the game to make it 8-3.
Evie Brilz scored a man-up goal assisted by
Megan Feeney, then Feeney scored a goal of her own, and Brilz scored her second goal of the game. Edgewood's (Wis.) Raupp scored her second goal of the game with 2:34 left in the first half to make it 8-4. Wrobbel and Katzenmeyer rounded out the scoring in the quarter to expand the UWL lead to 10-4.
Edgewood (Wis.) would strike first in the second half at 14:02 left in the third quarter with another goal from Raupp to make it 10-5. UWL's Maloney, Feeney and Schiltz later scored to make it 13-5. Edgewood (Wis.) scored a man-up goal from Eloe at 6:27 left in the quarter to make it 13-6. UWL scored the final four goals of the quarter, including two from Maloney. Brilz and
Angie Olla scored to make it 17-6 after three quarters.
The final period saw Raupp score her fourth goal to cut the UWL lead to 17-7. Brilz scored her fourth goal at 11:42 left to make it 18-7. Olla later scored on a free position shot to make it 19-7. Raupp would score her fifth goal with 4:09 remaining.
UWL recorded 36 shots in the win. Brilz, Maloney, and Schiltz recorded four goals each to lead the Eagles. Feeney, Katzenmeyer, and Olla chipped in with two goals each for UWL. Brilz also recorded a team-high three assists on the day, with Maloney adding two assists in the contest.
Stefania Rossi recorded six saves for UWL to earn the win in 45:00 of action while
Bree Rhodes registered one in 15:00.
Kaley Hendrick and Feeney each had three ground balls. Schiltz caused three of the teams six caused turnovers.
Edgewood (Wis.) finished with 22 shots. Raupp recorded five of the team's eight goals. Cadence Trimberger recorded four ground balls while Maude Spagnolo-Salisbury caused two turnovers. Zoee Pond recorded 13 saves for Edgewood (Wis.).
UWL returns to action Saturday, March 15 hosting Aurora University (Ill.) at 1 p.m.
