Women's Basketball Drops Final Regular Season Contest; Will Travel to UW-Stevens Point For WIAC Tournament

Stevens Point, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team dropped their final Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) regular season game to UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
  • UW-Stevens Point opened the game with a 12-2 run over the first 6:24 of the game. The Pointers would extend their lead to 17-4 (1:49) before the Eagles got back-to-back baskets from Lauryn Milne in the final minute of the first quarter to trail 17-8. 
  • Trailing 21-10 in the second quarter, Kailee Meeker hit back-to-back jumpers to cut their deficit to 21-14 with 6:44 left in the half.The Pointers quickly extended their lead back to double digits (25-14) before the Eagles made a mini run to cut their deficit to 27-21 with 2:00 left in the first half. The Pointers would lead 30-23 at halftime.
  • A Meeker free throw would cut the Pointers lead to 35-26 with 8:36 left in the third quarter. UW-Stevens Point would take its largest lead of the game on a layup with 2:53 left to lead 50-35. UWL then closed the quarter with an 11-2 run to trail 52-46. 
  • Trailing 61-51, UWL scored nine of the next 12 points to trail 63-60 with :59 remaining. That would be as close as the Eagles would get as the Pointers would hit four straight free throws to seal the win.

  • As a team, the Eagles finished 23-of-59 (39.0%) from the floor including five-of-20 (25.0%) from three-point range. UWL was also nine-of-16 (56.3%) from the free throw line. 
  • Milne led the Eagles with 17 points and eight rebounds while Meeker added nine points. 
  • Lindsey Knuth and Molly Janke each added eight points of the bench for the Eagles.
  • UW-Stevens Point shot 27-of-60 (45.0%) from the floor including four-of-14 (28.6%) from the three point line. The Pointers were also nine-of-13 (69.2%) from the free throw line.
  • Alexa Thomson led the Pointers with 26 points and 14 rebounds while Gabby Gawlitta added 13 points and eight rebounds.
