Rochester, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team placed second after the final day of action at the Rochester Invitational Saturday night at the Rochester-Olmstead County Recreation Center Natatorium.
The Eagles totaled 1,418.0 team points. St. Cloud State University (Minn.) won the eight-team invitational with 2,001.0 points.
Preston Nygaard captured the 200 breaststroke (2:00.81) on Saturday with
Gabe DeWald ninth (2:10.28) and
Davin Evans 10th (2:10.60).
UWL's
Tyler Hartmann was second (51.70) in the 100 I.M. with
Jacob Ketterling third (51.86),
Luca Nociti 13th (56.09) and
Gabi Bocsi 14th (56.15). Ketterling was also fourth (1:53.41) in the 200 backstroke while
Owen Acker placed 10th (1:56.13),
Coby Zander 11th (1:57.04) and
Sean Gillett 15th (2:00.73).
Four swimmers were in the top 16 in the 200 butterfly with
Caleb Jondle finishing fifth (1:57.81),
Isaac Mozena ninth (1:59.11), Nick Ellerd 15th (2:01.26) and
Nolan Sannito 16th (2:02.55).
Jesse Hammes was eighth (46.91),
Ben Collins 14th (47.80) and Nociti 15th (48.19) in the 100 freestyle. Acker finished eighth (16:50.36) and Sannito 11th (17:12.10) in the 1,650 freestyle.
The Eagles' 400 freestyle relay of Hartmann, Collins, Ketterling and Hammes placed sixth (3:06.47).
UWL returns to action Saturday, January 17 at UW-Oshkosh at 1 p.m.
