Women's Basketball Extends Win Streak To Four With Win Over Loras; Janke Scores 17

Dubuque, Iowa - Another balanced offensive attack helps lead the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team to a non-conference road win over Loras College on Wednesday night.

Next Up: The Eagles will finally play a home game as they host Luther College (Iowa) at 5 p.m. on November 22. The women's basketball team along with the Eagle wrestling team will be celebrating Greg Lonning Day. Greg Lonning is the late father of Eagle women's basketball head coach Moran Lonning along with the former UWL head wrestling coach. Not only will the Eagle women's basketball team be playing Luther College but the Eagle wrestling team will welcome the Norse of Luther College for a dual. Both the basketball game and wrestling match will take place in MItchell Hall at 5 p.m.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
  • UWL got off to a fast start in the first quarter as they opened with a 14-2 run over the first 6:06 of the game. Malia Nelson sparked the run with a three-pointer followed by a layup for five quick points. Loras would score the final three points of the first quarter as UWL led 16-7. 
  • Loras would score the first points of the second quarter to make it 16-9 but the Eagles would score eight of the next 11 points to lead 24-12 5:27 left in the half. Molly Janke would score seven straight points to jump start the run for the Eagles. A Grace Knupp layup would give the Eagles its largest lead of the first half, 31-16, with :49 left. Claire Wagner's three-point play with :28 left would make the halftime score 31-19 in favor of the Eagles.
  • The Eagles would open the second half with a 9-3 run to extend their lead to 40-22. The Duhawks would respond with a run of their own as they scored nine of the next 12 points to cut their deficit to 43-31 with 3:11 left in the third quarter. Back-to-back field goals in the final :19 of the third quarter for the Eagles would give UWL a 49-33 lead heading into the final quater. 
  • It was all Eagles in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Duhawks 24-9 in the final period. A Taylor Brigham layup with 2:04 would give the Eagles its largest lead of the game at 72-40. 

FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • As a team, the Eagles finished 29-of-67 (43.3%) from the floor including nine-of-27 (33.3%) from the three-point line. UWL was also six-of-eight (75.0%) from the free throw line.
  • Janke led the way offensively with 17 points while Knupp added 11 points and Madisyn Kilboten chipped in nine. 
  • Twelve different players scored at least a point for the Eagles.
  • Jenna Welsch (seven rebounds), Janke (six rebounds) and Kilboten (six rebounds) helped give the Eagles a 46-36 advantage in rebounding. 
  • The Duhawks shot 16-of-58 (27.6%) from the floor including one-of-19 (5.3%) from the three-point line. Loras was also nine-of-15 (60%) from the free throw line. 
  • Wagner led the Duhawks with 10 points and five rebounds.
