Stevens Point, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team improved to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) with a 4-1 win at UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon at Point Soccer Bowl.
The Pointers drop to 5-4-4 overall and 0-1 in the WIAC. It is UWL's seventh straight win over UW-Stevens Point.
With the win, UWL extends its WIAC unbeaten streak to 23 (22-0-1).
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead on Saturday at 24:50 with
Jillian Sawadski scoring off
Ella Opie's assist.
UWL led 1-0 at halftime.
UW-Stevens Point tied the game, 1-1, at 47:08 as Cass Klitzke scored after assists from Christa Borchardt and Kayce Wadas. UWL quickly retook the lead at 47:26 with Sawadski giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
Katelyn Studebaker and
Monica Wawrzyn recorded assists.
Sawadski extended the lead to 3-1 at 50:58 with her third goal of the game, this one coming on
Sera Speltz and
Catherine Arnold assists.
Riley Veenendaal gave UWL a 4-1 lead on her unassisted goal at 62:57.
UWL finished with 32 shots, including 12 on goal. Sawadski had three goals on a team-high six shots with four on goal. Veenendaal had four shots while Speltz,
Aubree Caya and
Grace Williams each had three shots.
The Eagles had eight corner kicks in the game.
UW-Stevens Point recorded eight shots with four on goal. The Pointers finished with three corner kicks. Â Christa Borchardt with three shots, including two on goal.
Summer Nicolai earned the win for UWL, recording three saves. Ainsley Katte suffered the loss for UW-Stevens Point, registering eight saves in the game.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 8 hosting Bethel University (Minn.) at 6 p.m.
