Rock Island, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country team captured the Augustana College (Ill.) Interregional Gold Race Saturday morning at Saukie Golf Course. The Eagles finished with 56 team points.
UWL finished second in the Augustana (Ill.) Blue Race with 92 team points.
Wartburg College (Iowa) was second with 68 points in the Gold Race while RPI (N.Y.) was third with 197. The University of Chicago (Ill.) placed fourth (211) and North Central College (Ill.) fifth (241).
UW-Platteville (255), UW-Stevens Point (258), Pomona-Pitzer College, Calif. (260), Hope College, Mich. (286) and Washington University-St. Louis, Mo. (320) rounded out the top-10. A total of 36 teams competed.
The meet featured 14 of the top-30 teams in NCAA Division III, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
UWL is ranked first in the country while Wartburg (Iowa) is second. Other ranked teams finishing in the top-10 on Saturday included Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.) fifth, North Central (Ill.) sixth, RPI (N.Y.) 11th, Chicago (Ill.) 13th, UW-Platteville 14th, UW-Stevens Point 15th, Hope (Mich.) 17th and Washington-St. Louis (Mo.) 20th.
The Eagles had six runners finish in the top-34 on Saturday, including
Grant Matthai placing second with a time of 24:01.5 on the 8,000-meter course.
Aidan Matthai was fourth (24:18.6),
Joey Sullivan ninth (24:32.5),
Chuck Vater 17th (24:48.0),
Nico Castellanos 24th (24:52.4) and
Owen Clark 34th (25:05.5).
UWL's
Jayden Zywicki placed 53rd (25:26.2),
Aidan Manning 55th (25:27.2),
Mason Brown 62nd (25:30.7) and
Isaac Ewing 138th (26:12.3).
Isaac vanWestrienen of Cornell College (Iowa) won the individual title (23:57.1). A total of 339 runners completed the race.
In the Augustana (Ill.) Interregional Invitational Blue Race, Wartburg (Iowa) took the team title with 38 points. Washington-St. Louis (Mo.) was third with 120 and North Central (Ill.) fourth with 151.
UW-Platteville placed fifth (224) and UW-Stevens Point sixth (231). Chicago (Ill.) finished seventh (232), Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) eighth (247), UW-Whitewater ninth (278) and Denison University (Ohio) 10th (279). A total of 32 teams competed.

Owen Layton won the individual title in the Blue Race with a time of 25:40.3. The Eagles'
Logan Salzmann was 15th (26:09.0) and
Layne Aurit 16th (26:11.6).
