Women's Basketball Falls On The Road At UW-Platteville; Meeker Scores 23 Points

Platteville, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team got off to a fast start but was unable to hold on as they fell on the road to UW-Platteville Wednesday night.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
  • UWL got off to a fast start as they opened with a 17-0 run and led 22-5 at the end of the first quarter. Kailee Meeker got the scoring started first for the Eagles with a three-pointer followed by a three-pointer from Ali Sprangers. Meeker had eight points in the opening quarter.
  • UW-Platteville scored 17 of the first 19 points in the second quarter as they cut their deficit to 24-22 with 3:09 left in the half. Malia Nelson ended the Pioneers run with a three-pointer and three free throws in the final minute gave the Eagles a 30-24 lead at halftime.
  • The Pioneers would score the first eight points of the second half to take its first lead of the game at 32-30 with 8:06 left in the third quarter. UW-Platteville would extend their lead to 40-35 on an Ella Mackiewicz layup with 5:02 on the clock. A three-point play by Meeker gut the Eagles deficit to 44-41 before trailing 46-43 at the end of the third quarter. 
  • UWL would cut their deficit to two on multiple occasions in the fourth quarter before the Pioneers took a 60-54 lead with 1:14 left. Lauryn Milne hit a three-pointer with :19 left to cut the deficit to 60-57. After two free throws by Madalyn Reichmann with :09 left, Milne hit a three-pointer to make it 62-60 Pioneers with :03 remaining. Macey Banasik would hit one-of-two free throws to seal the win as UWL would not get a shot off in their final possession. 

FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • As a team, the Eagles finished 19-of-57 (33.3%) from the floor including seven-of-19 (36.8%) from the three-point line. UWL was also 15-of-18 (83.3%) from the free throw line.
  • Meeker led the Eagles with a season and game high 23 points while also grabbing a team high six rebounds. 
  • Joining Meeker in double figures was Milne with 13 points while Nelson added nine points. 
  • The Pioneers finished the game 23-of-54 (42.6%) from the floor including nine-of-22 (40.9%) from the three-point line. UW-Platteville was also eight-of-10 from the free throw line. 
  • Mackiewicz led the Pioneers with 17 points and six rebounds while Allison Wokatsch finished with 16 points.
