River Forest, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team, ranked seventh in the United Soccer Coaches National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Preseason Poll, improved to 3-0 with a 2-0 victory Dominican University (Ill.) afternoon at West Campus Field. The Stars drop to 0-3 on the year.
The game was scoreless at halftime after UWL totaled six shots and Dominican (Ill.) three in the first 45:00 of action.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead at 47:42 on
Chelsea Gale's penalty kick. UWL quickly made it 2-0 at 49:31 as
Alexis McMahon scored off assists from Gale and
Ellie Behnke.
Sophia Anger earned the shutout in goal for UWL, recording four saves.
UWL finished with 27 shots in the game, including 10 on goal. Seven starters recorded a shot with
Aubree Caya finishing with a team-high five (one on goal). McMahon totaled four shots with two on goal. Arndt,
Hayley Slaski and
Kaitlyn Kurtz each had three shots with Slaski recording two on goal. Arendt and Kurtz had one shot on goal in the game.
Dominican (Ill.) totaled 13 shots while being held to four on goal. Grace Larson and Mackenzie Cuddihy each had three shots with Cuddihy recording one on goal. Sarah Grimmett suffered the loss for the Stars, registering eight saves.
Both teams had five corner kicks.
UWL returns to action Sunday, September 8 facing Illinois Wesleyan University at 12 p.m. in River Forest.
