UWL Shutout at Nationally-Ranked North Central

Naperville, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team fell 6-0 at North Central College (Ill.) Sunday afternoon at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. The Eagles, ranked eighth on the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, drop to 6-2 on the season. The Cardinals, ranked 20th in the poll, improve to 8-2. 

North Central (Ill.) scored three goals in each half on Sunday.  Jordan Lange got the scoring started at :56 with an assist from Elle Sutter. The Cardinals extended the lead to 2-0 at 18:48 on Sarah Andrey's goal off Madison DeVriendt's assist. Gabriella Mattio scored at 23:47 on an assist from Kassandra Salviola to make it 3-0.

In the first half, North Central (Ill.) totaled 15 shots while UWL finished with nine. The Eagles had five corner kicks in the first 45:00 with the Cardinals recording two. 

North Central (Ill.) added three goals in the second half. Salviola scored at 58:31 to make it 4-0. Yazmin Martinez recorded the assist. Brooke Nelson made it 5-0 at 70:26 with assists from DeVriendt and Salviola while Sutter finished the scoring at 77:31 off a Martinez assist. 

UWL finished with 19 shots, including five on goal. Grace Williams led the Eagles with four shots with two on goal. Katelyn Studebaker and Aubree Caya each finished with three shots as Caya had one on goal. Sophia Anger suffered the loss, registering nine saves.

It marks the first time UWL has been shutout this season.

North Central (Ill.) totaled 22 shots with 15 on goal. Sutter had seven shots, including five on goal. Andrey finished with four shots, one on goal, while Martinez, Salviola, Jordan Lange and Victoria James each had two shots. Olivia Mattison earned the shutout win, recording five saves.

UWL returns to action Friday, September 27 hosting fifth-ranked Christopher Newport University (Va.) at 4 p.m .
