St. Peter, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team completed action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Invitational and the Midwest Invitational Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). No team scores were recorded.
In the ITA Midwest Regional,
Shelby Roth and
Lauren Lindow both went 2-1 in singles play. Roth received a first round bye and then defeated Katherin Trifilio of Carroll University, Wis. (6-1, 6-1) and Evelyn Taylor of Edgewood College, Wis. (6-4, 6-7, 10-8) before falling to Cassie Lee of UW-Whitewater (6-1, 6-3) in the quarterfinals. Lindow earned a first round victory over Clara Mast of Carleton College, Minn. (6-1, 6-2) before a second round win over Alexandra Berns of St. Olaf College, Minn. (6-1, 6-1). Lindow lost in the third round to Molly Austin of Gustavus Adolphus, Minn. (6-2, 6-2).
Tasha Bailey and
Maia Samuelson each went 1-1 in singles play while
Emma Heinert finished 1-2 and
Hannah Cady lost her only match.
In doubles play at the ITA Midwest Regional, Bailey/Roth advanced to the quarterfinals on Saturday, finishing 3-1 in the tournament. Samuelson/Cady were 2-1 while Lindow/Heinert went 1-1.
UWL's
Izabelle Brinkman captured the No. 6 singles draw in the Midwest Invitational, finishing 4-0. She opened with a victory over Rika Cross of Gustavus Adolphus, Minn. (6-1, 1-6, 10-7) followed with a second-round win over Brooke Wilfong of UW-Superior (6-4, 6-3). Brinkman earned a semifinal win over Lily Holmberg of St. Catherine University, Minn. (6-3, 1-6, 10-5) and won the draw with a victory over Abigail McIsaac of UW-Whitewater (6-1, 6-3).
Ella Eames placed second in the No. 2 singles draw in the Midwest Invitational. She went 2-1, opening with a win over Hailey Beisel of UW-Eau Claire (1-6, 6-0, 10-4). Eames defeated Annalise Skrade of Concordia College-Moorhead, Minn. (6-4, 6-4) in the second round before falling in the semifinals to Ashley Stroebel of Gustavus Adolphus, Minn. (6-4, 6-1).
The Eagles'
Emma Kappel (No. 7 singles) and
Sophia Perret (No. 8) both went 0-1.
In the Midwest Invite Doubles, Eames/Kappel went 1-1 while Brinkman/
Sophia Perret dropped both of its matches.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 2 hosting UW-Eau Claire at 3 p.m. at Green Island Tennis Park.
