Rogers, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team opened its spring schedule with a 4-3 loss at Bethel University (Minn.) Sunday afternoon at the Rogers Tennis Club.
The Eagles drop to 9-1 on the season while the Royals improve to 5-0.
UWL won two of the three doubles matches Sunday, including
Hannah Cady/
Lily Jorgenson over Elisabeth Langhus/Payton Douglas at No. 2 (6-2) and
Maia Samuelson/
Caitlyn Stadter over Claire Keller/Zadie Walvatne at No. 3 (7-5).
Bethel (Minn.) took the doubles match at No. 1 (6-3) as Lauryn Douglas/Michaella Sullivan defeated
Tasha Bailey/
Shelby Roth.
The Royals took four of the six singles matches to secure the dual victory. UWL's Jorgenson defeated Walvatne at No. 5 (6-3, 6-3) and Cady earned the win at No. 6 (6-2, 6-3) over Payton Douglas.
Bethel (Minn.) won at No. 1 singles as Lauryn Douglas defeated Bailey (3-6, 6-2, 13-11) and Sullivan earned the victory at No. 2 over Roth (6-3, 6-2). At No. 3 singles, Keller defeated Stadter (6-0, 6-3) and Langhus earned the win at No. 4 over
Lauren Lindow (6-2, 3-6, 10-7).
UWL returns to action Monday, March 16 with a pair of matches to open its spring break trip in Orlando, Florida. The Eagles face the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) at 7 a.m. (Central) and Trinity College (Ct.) at 2 p.m.
