Terre Haute, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country team, ranked first in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Poll, captured the team title Saturday morning at the Indiana State University John McNichols Invitational at LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
The Eagles finished with 52 team points. Wartburg College (Iowa) was second with 84 with North Central College (Ill.) third with 116. Miami University (Ohio) was fourth with 148 points and New York University fifth with 177. A total of 34 teams competed.
UWL had eight runners finish in the top-40 overall among all teams.
Grant Matthai was second overall with a time of 24:13.3 on the 8,000-meter course. UWL's

Joey Sullivan 11th (24:39.7),
Corey Fairchild 12th (24:43.0),
Adam Loenser 19th (24:50.7),
Jayden Zywicki 21st (24:53.6),
Mason Brown 35th (25:06.3) and
Charles Vater 40th (25:08.3).
Six more runners placed in the top-100 for the Eagles as
Chris Wolfe finished 45th (25:11.7),
Will Aurit 47th (25:11.8),
Aidan Manning 48th (25:12.5),
Elias Ritzke 63rd (25:28.0),
Luke Chaffin 68th (25:31.2) and
Logan Bell 75th (25:35.0).

A total of 466 runners completed the race. Nathan Tassey of Roger Williams University (R.I.) won the individual title (23:57.8).
UWL returns to action Saturday, October 4 with a pair of meets. The Eagles travel to the University of Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational and the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational.
