Mequon, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country team opened its season placing second at the Concordia University Wisconsin Ken Weidt Classic Saturday afternoon. The Eagles finished with 50 team points while MSOE (Wis.) won the title with 30 points. Lawrence University (Wis.) placed third with 66. A total of 13 teams competed.
Ryan Gwaltney led UWL with an eighth-place finish, completing the 8,000-meter course in 26:46.3.
Chase Altergott finished ninth (26:47.0) and
Corey Fairchild 10th (26:47.0).
Nash Merklein was 11th (26:47.1) followed by
Ben Stangel 12th (26:47.3),
Chris Wolfe 13th (26:47.5),
Aidan Matthai 14th (26:47.6),
Owen Clark 15th (26:47.6),
Logan Bell 16th (26:47.9),
Grant Matthai 17th (26:48.0),
Parker Heintz 18th (26:48.9) and
Joey Sullivan 20th (26:49.5).
Other top-35 finishers for the Eagles included

A total of 142 runners completed the race. Adam Shaw captured the individual title (25:29.7).
