Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team finished fifth at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Invitational Saturday with 25.0 team points. Grinnell College (Iowa) took the team title with 46.0 points. A total of eight teams competed.
In singles play, UWL's
Kate Townsend placed third in the No. 3 draw with a 2-1 record. She opened with a victory (6-1, 6-0) over Mikayla Kelly of Augustana College (Ill.) before losing (6-2, 6-2) to UW-Whitewater's Sarah Ferguson in the semifinals. Townsend came back to finish third with a win (6-3, 6-2) over Luther College's (Iowa) Rafaela Tavares.
Emma Heinert dropped the consolation final to Anna Lee of UW-Eau Claire (8-6) at No. 2 singles. She went 1-2 in the tournament. After a first-round loss (6-0, 7-6) to Luther's (Iowa) Montse Ramirez Mainou, Heinert defeated Maddie Kearney of Carthage College (Wis.) in the consolation first round (8-3).

Lauren Lindow went 0-1 in No. 1 singles.

Tasha Bailey placed third in the No. 1 draw with a 2-1 mark. The duo defeated (8-6) Hannah Colbert/Colleen Larry of Augustana (Ill.) in its first match. After a loss (8-2) in the semifinals to UW-Whitewater's Abby Weaver/Ava Andrea, Roth/Bailey took third with a victory (8-6) over Morgan Dekan/Liv Herzog of UW-Eau Claire.

Emma Kappel took the No. 3 doubles consolation title, also going 2-1. After an opening round loss (8-4) to Tan Mukherjee/Kalea Martin of Grinnell (Iowa), the duo defeated Maddy Harned/Sofia Carr of Augustana (Ill.) in the consolation semifnals (8-1) and Marie Wies/Victoria Rizzo of Carthage (Wis.) in the final (8-4).
UWL's
Hannah Cady/
Maia Samuelson were fourth at No. 2 doubles. They defeated Natash Gauerke/Hattie Timerman of Augustana (Ill.) in the first round (8-1) before a semifinal loss (8-5) to Molly Asfeld/Alex Repplier of UW-Whitewater in the semifinals. Cady/Samuelson lost (8-5) in the third-place match to Anika Sheth/Utsah Kalra of Grinnell (Iowa).
UWL returns to action Saturday, September 7 with a pair of matches in Oshkosh. The Eagles face UW-Oshkosh at noon and Ripon College (Wis.) at 3 p.m.
