Duluth, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team, ranked seventh in the United Soccer Coaches National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Preseason Poll, opened its 2024 season with a 5-0 victory over UW-Superior Friday night at Public Schools Stadium. The Yellowjackets were also playing their season opener.
UWL scored three first half goals Friday.
Jillian Sawadski notched the game-winning goal at 2:07 on
Lindsey Szymanski's assist to make it 1-0.
Aubree Caya made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal at 8:13 and
Alexis McMahon added another unassisted goal at 17:26 to give the Eagles a 3-0 halftime advantage.
Sawadski added her second goal of the game at 45:08 on a
Ellie Arndt assist for a 4-0 lead. Arndt finished the scoring at 48:27.
Sophia Anger (45:00),
Erelyn Apel (19:07) and
Summer Nicolai (25;53) combined for the shutout with each recording one save. Quinn Clark (90:00) finished with 12 saves for UW-Superior
