Fast First Half Leads to Win at St. Scholastica; Seven Players Score

Box Score Duluth, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team, ranked seventh in the United Soccer Coaches National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Preseason Poll, improved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-1 victory at The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) Sunday afternoon at Kenny Harkins Field. The Saints drop to 0-2 on the year. 

A fast first half led UWL to the win as the Eagles scored five goals in the first 45:00 while recording 20 shots. Jillian Sawadski got the scoring started at 9:08 off Lindsey Szymanski's assist. Chelsea Gale gave UWL a 2-0 lead at 10:31 on a Sawadski assist. The Eagles added three more goals in the opening half. Ellie Behnke made it 3-0 with Ellie Arndt recording an assist at 12:23. Aubree Caya extended the lead to 4-0 at 15:35 on assists from Arendt and Behnke. Natalia Stadler finished the first half scoring for the UWL at 24:51 with an unassisted goal for a 5-0 advantage.

St. Scholastica (Minn.) got on the scoreboard at 35:48 with Mariah Hernesman scoring on Kaitlyn Sautter's assist to make it 5-1 at halftime. 

UWL scored a pair of second half goals. Szymanski scored at 48:01 on an Alexis McMahon assist while Lizzy Hanstedt finished the scoring at 85:25 with assist from Katelyn Studebaker and Hayley Slaski

Sophia Anger earned the victory in goal, recording one save in 54:51. Erelyn Apel (15:46) and Robin Blair (19:33) also played in goal for UWL. Gracie Meagher suffered the loss for St. Scholastica (Minn.), finishing with nine saves. 

Team Stats:
UWL finished with 35 shots, including 16 on goal. The Eagles had nine corner kicks. 
St. Scholastica (Minn.) totaled four shots with two on goal. The Saints were held to zero corner kicks.
