UWL Places Second at WIAC Championship; Ties School Record for Victories

River Falls, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team fell, 15-5, to Colorado College in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament (presented by Culver's) Championship game Saturday night at UW-River Falls' Ramer Field.
 
The Eagles, seeded third in the tournament, finish 12-6 on the season. The 12 victories ties the single-season school record set a year ago when UWL went 12-5. The Eagles advanced to the championship game after a 16-8 victory over host UW-River Falls in Friday's semifinals. 

Colorado College, ranked second in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Region VII, improve to 14-5 on the season. The top-seeded Tigers earned a 22-8 victory over fourth-seeded UW-Eau Claire in Friday's other semifinal. 

The Tigers scored the first seven goals of the game Saturday night with Tobin Lonergan and Kendall Havill each notching a pair of goals. The Eagles got on the scoreboard with 5:23 remaining in the first quarter on Megan Feeney's goal off a Kiersten Pelletier assist to make it 7-1. After CC took an 8-1 lead, UWL's Megan Maloney scored unassisted with 2:15 left in the first quarter to cut the lead to 8-2. Deveon Ortman scored her second goal of the opening quarter for CC with :23 remaining to make it 9-2. 

CC scored all four of the game's goals in the second quarter to take a 13-2 halftime advantage. 

Maloney scored in the third quarter and Ava Schiltz registered a pair of goals in the fourth quarter for UWL. 

UWL finished with 11 shots as Maloney and Schiltz each scored twice. Lydia Spencer, Kara Stay and Abi Furlano led the Eagles with two ground balls while Grace Willmott had a team-high three draw controls. Furlano recorded 14 saves.

CC totaled 38 shots with Havill and Ortman leading the Tigers with three goals each. Grace Bean recorded three assists with Ortman and Evelyn Baher-Murph each having three ground balls. Cassiday Schnaufer earned the win with one save while playing the first half. Kathryn Mahoney played the second half in goal.
