Eagles Extend Win Streak to Six Games With Doubleheader Sweep of UW-Eau Claire

Eau Claire, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team finished the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon at Carson Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
   
Game One 
  • After two scoreless innings, UWL scored three runs on two hits to take a 3-0 lead.Chris VandenHeuvel walked followed by a Mac Born single. George Seaman then hit his team leading 13th home run of the season to score all three runs. 
  • In the fourth inning, Brady Burrill reached on a throwing error and stole both second and third base. Burrill then scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0. Keegan Fleischman walked and advanced to second on a walk. Fleischman advanced to third on a line out and scored on a balk to extend UWL's lead to 5-0.
  • Mac Born would lead of the fifth inning with his 12th home run of the season. Seaman then walked and moved to third on a double. Jack Olver scored Seaman on a sacrifice fly while Burrill scored Pye with a double to make it 8-0. After Fleischman walked, Nate Witte doubled to score Burrill and put UWL up 9-0. 
  • UWL would score the final run of the game on an RBI single by Witte in the seventh inning. 
    Game Two
  • The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning as Olver drove in a run with a single and Andrew Rajkovich hit a sacrifice fly. 
  •  Seaman put UWL up 3-0 with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
  • Connor Weik would put UW-Eau Claire on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third in with a two run home run to cur their deficit to 3-2.
  • Burrill led off the fourth inning with his second home run of the season to put UWL up 4-2.
  • The Eagles extended its lead to 5-2 as Rajkovich led off the seventh inning with his third home run of the season.
  • An RBI single in the eighth inning by Rajkovich would put UWL up 6-2.
  • UW-Eau Claire would get a single run in the bottom of the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly by Drew Salyers but that would be all the Blugolds would manage. 

FROM THE BOX SCORE
   
Game One
  • Offensively, UWL finished with 10 runs on 11 hits and five walks..
  • Born, Seaman and Witte each had multi hit games for the Eagles. 
  • Born finished 3-for-4, HR, two runs scored and an RBI while Seaman was 2-for-3 with a HR, walk, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. 
  • Witte went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
  • Isaiah Katz (6-4) went 5.0 innings, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out one to earn the win for the UWL.
  • James Schutte (1-1) suffered the loss for the Blugolds as he gave up eight runs (six earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out four in 4.1 innings. 
      Game Two
  • The Eagles finished game two with six runs on nine hits and four walks.
  • Rajkovich led the Eagles offense as he finished 3-for-3 with an HR, three RBIs and one run scored.
  • Also finishing with multiple hits was Olver as he was 2-for-3 with an RBI. 
  • Burrill was 1-for-3 with a HR, walk, three runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base.
  • Caleb Matl (4-0) came on in relief to pitch four scoreless innings while giving up three hits and one walk while striking out five. Owen Anderson started for the Eagles as he allowed two runs on six hits while striking out four in four innings.
  • Draza Dupor (1-4) suffered the loss for the Blugolds as he allowed three runs on three hits in three inings of work. 
  • Weik led the Blugolds offense going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.
