Second Half Rally Falls Short in Non-Conference Loss to Carroll

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's lacrosse team fell, 11-10, to Carroll University (Wis.) Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles drop to 7-3 on the season while the Pioneers improve to 10-1.

Carroll (Wis.) took a 3-1 lead after the first quarter on Saturday. Abby Stats scored with 10:37 left before Ava Schiltz tied it for UWL with 8:47 remaining. Rebecca Hallman gave the Pioneers a 2-1 lead with 8:09 left and Elizabeth Wang extended it to 3-1 with 1:17 remaining. 

Megan Maloney's goal for the Eagles with 10:28 left in the second quarter cut the deficit to 3-2. Samantha Hurd gave Carrol (Wis.) a 4-2 lead with 7:09 left before Megan Feeney cut the lead to 4-3 with 6:39 remaining on a Maloney assist. Emma Kimps finished the scoring in the first half for the Pioneers with a goal with 4:44 left as Carroll (Wis.) took a 5-3 halftime advantage. 

The Pioneers scored the first three goals of the third quarter to take a 8-3 lead. Hallman had a pair of goals while Elaina Phaneuf also scored. The Eagles trailed, 8-5, after three quarters as Emily Wrobbel (2:42 left) and Feeney (1:57) scored goals.

Maloney's goal off a Grace Willmott assist with 12:30 left in the game cut the lead to 8-6. Grace Brockman gave Carroll (Wis.) a 9-6 lead with 11:37 remaining, but Feeney's third goal of the game cut it to 9-7 with 8:43 left on Kiersten Pelletier's assist. Wang (7:04) and Hurd (6:26) extended the Pioneers' lead to 11-7, but the Eagles scored the next three goals. Willmott cut it to 11-8 with 4:32 remaining and Feeney notched a goal with 3:07 left to make it 11-9. Willmott then scored with 2:26 remaining to cut it to 11-10, but UWL could not score the tying goal. Pelletier assisted on all three of the final goals. 

UWL finished with 21 shots. Feeney totaled four goals while Maloney and Willmott each had two. Maloney added two assists. Pelletier had a game-high four assists. Abi Furlano recorded 11 saves. Willmott and Kaley Hendrick each had five ground balls. 

Carroll (Wis.) had 28 shots with Hallman leading the Pioneers with three goals. Hurd and Wang each had two goals. Devon Duym finished with four saves.

UWL returns to action Wednesday, April 10 hosting UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m.
