Eagles Take Doubleheader From UW-Stout; Score 27 Runs in Two Games

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team scored 27 runs in two games as they swept UW-Stout in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
   
Game One 
  • UWL would take a 3-0 lead after 4 innings, as they got a sacrifice fly from Logan Pye in the second inning and two runs in the fourth inning including Anthony Vivian scoring on a passed ball and Jack Moran driving in a run with a single.
  • The Eagles would add three more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Pye led off with a walk and stole second base. Nate Witte then hit his third home run of the season to put UWL up 5-0. Chris VandenHeuvel then doubled and scored on Jack Olver's single. 
  • Pye would hit his second sacrifice fly of the game to put UWL up 7-0 after seven innings.
  • In the eighth inning with one out, VandenHeuvel reached after being hit by a pitch and advanced to second when Olver reached on a fielders choice. George Seaman then singled to score VandenHeuvel followed by Born singling to score both Seaman and Olver. Pye would reach on a fielders choice to put runners on the corners. Tim Urlaub then doubled to score both Vivian and Pye to put UWL up 12-0.
  • Jack Redwine would pinch hit in the UW-Stout half of the eighth inning and single to drive in the Blue Devils lone run of the game. 
    Game Two
  • UW-Stout would score a run in the third and fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead after four innings. Justin Sedin would drive in a run in the third inning while Riley Bousha singled to score a run in the fourth inning. 
  • UWL would tie the game at two in the fifth inning as Pye led off with a single and scored on a double by Calvin Hargrove. Then with one out, Witte singled to score Hargrove and tie the game. 
  • The Eagles would add four runs on four hits and an error in the sixth inning to take a 6-2 lead. Hargrove would drive in two more runs with a double while Moran and Witte each singled to score a run.
  • The Blue Devils would get one run back in their half of the sixth inning as Parker Hagebock scored a run with a single to make it 6-3.
  • In the seventh inning, Olver led of with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. Olver then stole third base and scored on Born's double. Then with two outs, Pye singled to score Born and make it 8-3.
  • The Eagles would bat around in the eighth inning as they scored seven runs on seven hits. Hargrove drove in three runs with his first home run of the season while pinch hitter Andrew Rajkovich hit his second home run of the season to add two runs. Born and Vivian each singled to score a run as UWL took a 15-3 lead in the eighth inning.

Game One
  • Offensively, UWL finished with 12 runs on 17 hits and one walk.
  • Born led the Eagles going 4-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.
  • Olver and Vivian each finished with three hits. 
  • Owen Deprez (3-0) earned the win on the mound as he struck out 13 in 6.0 innings of work while allowing just four hits. 
  • Tucker Beving (0-5) suffered the loss for the Blue Devils as he allowed six runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out six in 6.0 innings of work.
  • As a team, UW-Stout finished with one run on nine hits and five walks.
  • Sedin led the Blue Devil offense going 2-for-3 with a walk while Redwine drove in a run with a pinch hit single.
      Game Two
  • The Eagles finished game two with 15 runs on 19 hits and four walks.
  • Hargrove led the Eagles offense by going 3-for-4 with a home runs, two doubles, five RBIs and three runs scored.
  • Born again went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Pye was 3-4 with two runs score and an RBI.
  • Nate Melnikoff (1-0) came on in relief to earn the win for UWL as he allowed one run on three hits and three walks. Chayce Osterhaus got the start for the Eagles as he went 4.0 innings and allow two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out five. 
  • Connor Hemme (1-1) suffered the loss for UW-Stout as he allowed four runs on four hits in 1.0 inning.
  • Sedin finished game two 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk while Riley Boushack was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
