Baseball Splits Doubleheader with UW-Oshkosh; Seaman Hits Walk Off in Game Two

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team split a doubleheader with UW-Oshkosh Sunday afternoon at Copeland Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
   
Game One 
  • After a scoreless first inning, UW-Oshkosh scored two runs in the top of the second inning. Mason Kirchberg drove in a run with a double while Carson Stenberg made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly.
  • UW-Oshkosh extended their lead to 6-0 in the third inning as they scored four runs on two hits and an error. 
  • The Eagles would get on the scoreboard in their half of the third inning as Nate Witte led off with a single and advanced to second on a ground out. Witte then scored on a double by Jack Olver to make it 6-1.
  • Kirchberg would drive in another run with a single in the fourth inning. 
  • UWL would get two runs back in the fourth inning to cut the Titans lead to 7-3. After Kegan Fleischman was hit by a pitch, Jack Moran reached on a bunt single and advanced to third on two errors which allowed Fleishchman to score. Witte then scored Moran with a single.  
  • The Titans would score five runs on five hits and an error in the fifth inning. Zac Taylor would hit a 2-run home run to spark the inning for the Titans.
  • George Seaman would hit his fourth home run of the series to make the score 12-5.
  • UWL would make it 12-6 in the sixth inning as Olver walked with the bases loaded. 
  • UW-Oshkosh would make it 17-6 in the top of the seventh inning with five runs including Taylor's second home run of the game.
    Game Two
  • Both teams would score in the first inning of game two with UW-Oshkosh scoring four runs on five hits. Kirchberg provided the big hit with a three-run home run.
  • Witte led of the Eagles half of the first inning with a single and advanced to second when Chris VandenHeuvel was hit by a pitch. Mac Born would single to score Witte and move VandenHeuvel advanced to third. Seaman then singled to score VandenHeuvel to cut the Titans lead to 4-2.
  • The Titans would add three run in the second inning with Taylor providing a two-run single to make it 7-2. 
  • A three-run home run by Jake Surane would extend the Titans lead to 10-2 after three innings.
  • Trailing 11-2 in the fifth inning, Witte led off with a triple and scored on VandenHeuvel's single. After a strikeout, Born hit his eighth home run of the season to cut the Eagles deficit to 11-5. George Seaman then reached on a throwing error which allowed him to advance to second. After a double by Anthony Vivian moved to Seaman to third, Emiliano Ramos singled to score Seaman. 
  • UW-Oshkosh would get two runs (13-6) back in the sixth inning as Kirchberg hit a two-run home run for his second home run of the game.
  • A solo home run from Anthony Vivian in the seventh inning would make it 13-7.
  • UWL would add three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to cut their deficit to 13-10. Moran walked to start the eighth and advanced to second on a single by Witte. VandenHeuvel then walked to load the bases. Olver then singled to score both Moran and Witte. A ground out by pinch hitter Logan Pye would score VandenHeuvel to make it 13-10. 
  • After the Titans loaded the bases with two out in the top of the ninth, Kirchberg hit a single to score two runs and put UW-Oshkosh up 15-10.
  • Brady Burrill would pinch hit to lead off the ninth and earned a walk. Burrill would then advance to second on a single by Moran before Witte doubled to score Burrill. VandenHeuvel would then hit a three-run home run, his eighth home run of the season, to pull the Eagles to within 15-14. Olver then singled and moved up to second when Pye was hit by a pitch. Seaman then hit his fifth home run of the series to give UWL the 17-15 walk off win.

Game One
  • Offensively, UWL finished with six runs on 10 hits and three walks.
  • Witte led the Eagle offense by going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Olver was 2-for-2 with two walks, two RBIs and a run scored. 
  • Alex Redman (1-1) suffered the loss by allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out two in 2.1 innings of work.
  • The Titans scored 17 runs on 16 hits and seven walks.
  • Taylor led the Titans going 4-for-5 with two home runs, three RBIs and five runs scored. 
  • Kirchberg finished 3-for-3 with two walks, two RBIs and two runs scored. 
  • Connor Walters (2-3) earned the win on the mound for the Titans by allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out three.  
      Game Two
  • Offensively, the Eagles scored 17 runs on 18 hits and four walks.
  • Seven Eagles finished with at least two hits with Witte leading the way as he finished 5-for-6 with an RBI and four runs scored. 
  • VandenHeuvel was 2-for-3 with two walks, a home run, four RBIs and four runs scored. 
  • Owen Anderson (3-0) came on in relief to earn the win as he pitched the final 6.1 innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out seven.
  • As a team, UW-Oshkosh scored 15 runs on 18 hits and three walks.
  • Alex Windy (1-2) suffered the loss for the Titans as came on in relief in the ninth inning to face Seaman. 
  • Taylor recorded another four hit game as he went 4-6 with two RBI and two runs scored. 
  • Kirchberg finished 3-for-6 with two home runs, seven RBI and two runs scored.
