Georgetown, Texas - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team fell, 21-6, to Colorado College Saturday afternoon at Southwestern University's (Texas) Varsity Field. The Eagles drop to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Tigers improve to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the WIAC.
Megan Maloney gave UWL a 1-0 lead with 14:31 left in the first quarter, but Colorado College scored the next four goals. Devon Ortmann had a pair of goals for the Tigers with Tobin Lonergan and Caroline Shay also scoring.
Britta Nelson cut it to 4-2 with 6:15 remaining, but two goals rom Sofia Mancino and one each from Ortman and Kendall Havill gave Colorad College a 8-2 lead after the first quarter.Â
The Tigers outscored the Eagles, 6-0, in the second quarter to take a 14-2 lead.Â
Colorado College led, 19-3, after the third quarter. UWL held a 3-2 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.Â
Maloney led UWL with two goals while Nelson,
Emily Wrobbel,
Megan Feeney and
Grace Willmott also scored once. UWL finished with 12 shots.
Abi Furlano recorded 15 saves.
Meilani Molina led Colorado College with five goals while Mancino and Ortman each had three. Lonergan had a team-leading two assists. Cassiday Schnaufer earned the win with three saves.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, April 17 hosting UW-River Falls at 5 p.m.Â
