UWL Splits Games in Tucson; Season-High Fifteen Runs in Win over Dickinson

Tucson, Ariz. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team split a pair of games Sunday. The Eagles fell, 6-4, to RPI (N.Y.) before coming back with a 15-3 victory over Dickinson College (Pa.) in the second game. UWL is now 4-6 on the season.

UWL took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first versus RPI (N.Y.). Brooke Howard walked and stole second. Abbey Bosch singled with Howard advancing to third. After Bosch stole second, Kyra Lard's double scored both runners. The Eagles extended the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third as Aliyah Langrehr scored as Marissa Pease reached on an error. 

RPI (N.Y.) cut it to 3-1 in the top of the fourth and added five runs in the fifth to take a 6-3. Callista Adorno's single knocked in the first Engineers' run in the fourth. Mikayla O'Neill scored on a passed ball in the fifth to cut it to 3-2 and Ryleigh Falvey's two-run single gave RPI (N.Y.) a 4-3 advantage. Two more runs scored on UWL errors. 

UWL cut it to 6-4 in the seventh. Bosch tripled to lead-off the inning and came in on Lard's single. 

UWL finished with nine hits with Bosch going 3-for-4 with two runs. Lard finished 2-for-4 with three RBI. Ava Jaehnke went 2-for-3. Elise Weinzierl took the loss, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing five hits and five runs (four earned) with one strikeout. 

RPI (N.Y.) totaled eight hits. Adorno went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Ava Markert picked up the victory. She pitched 5.0 innings, allowing six hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out five. 

UWL had a season-high 15 runs and 18 hits in its victory over Dickinson (Pa.). The Eagles score five times in the top of the first highlighted by RBI singles from Bosch, Maddy Bornbach and Joette Kassa and a two-run single from Lindsay Steien. 

After Dickinson (Pa.) cut it to 5-1, UWL tallied two runs in the second on Lard's two-run single scoring Cristin Casey and Bosch. The Eagles added four runs in the third and fourth innings. Howard, Bosch and Jaehnke had RBI singles and Lard an RBI double in the third. Bosch added a two-run single and Nicole Zoellner a two-run double in the top of the fourth. 

Casey and Bosch both went 4-for-4 with four runs with Bosch adding four RBI. Lard finished 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBI while Zoellner and Steien each had two RBI. Ashlyn Bennin picked up the victory, going 3.0 innings, allowing five hits, two runs (both unearned) and one walk while striking out three.

Dickinson (Pa.) had eight hits with Jessie Sandusky going 2-for-3 with a run. Beth Belanger took the loss, pitching 2.0 innings, allowing eight hits, seven runs and three walks. 

UWL faces Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (Calif.) at 11 a.m. (Central) and Webster University (Mo.) at 1 p.m. (Central) on Monday, March 11.
